so I returned my CX300s as there WASN'T enough bass...
...and i'm starting to think my ears must be the wrong shape as all i read is that many people find them too bassy! i couldn't get any decent bass without squashing my ears over them, presumably indicating the fit wasn't right. played about with all the different sizes and lots of wiggling them about trying to get a good fit but the bass was still lacking.
now need a new pair but a bit hesitant after this bad experience. anyone else have a similar experience or know of some that can get a better fit/bass?
weirdly, my sony HPM-75 headphones for my mobile phone were far far better with good bass (though pos a bit muddy) but was powerful and deep, which is crucial for me. do the sony have better buds? i'm wondering if anyone else has found these type of sony's to be better than the cx300 or whether i really need to look down the custom moulding path ...which as you can tell by me buying the cx300 i'm sure i can't really afford

I hope it's not stating the obvious - but you are sure what you got weren't fakes?

it crossed my mind after reading of the influx of fakes on auction sites but i bought them in store from audio-T so i certainly hope not!

as far as fitting goes, that's IEM's for ya! as for my recommendation, apart form the stiff cable, for bass you might want to try the UE metro.fi 2's. Better bass i think, but fitting might be an issue.

thanks, i'll check them out. i'll also have a look at custom fitting, i'm sure there are threads about it on here, and i could have have them made up as ear plugs too, for clubs, just sure it will mean $$$$ !

Custom fitting will be £100+.
I am looking at getting this done as I have problems with the fit of all of the earbud types supplied with my Shure SE530s.
Strangely, the CX300 (and all other IEMs that I have owned) fitted fine immediately. Have you tried all of the supplied options?

yes, tried all the supplied buds. though they sounded best when i swapped them for the sony buds, making me think i'm just not the right 'shape' for cx300, and why i was considering sony.
don't think i can justify the custom price tag, now intrigued by some UE models being 'universal fit' models. is this just marketing or a genuine advantage?
can anyone suggest a shop that you can try out different headphones? i've been to a few but they won't let me try them for size for hygiene reasons so it's going to be a gamble spending more and not knowing how they perform

Re: so I returned my CX300s as there WASN'T enough bass...
just thought i'd come back on and post up my experience if it helps anyone else decide what to buy.
after LOADS of research (to the point of OCD!) i finally settled on a pair of replacement headphones. Went for the Goldring GX200 and i couldn't be happier with them. The bass is unbelievable on them, with the larger buds on the isolation is fantastic and the bass is rib-churning. If you're looking for good bassy IEMs (which there are always a fair few threads about) i can't recommend them enough. I listen to a lot of electronic music (mostly d'n'b, dubstep, breaks) as well as funk, soul & swing and for me, they suit it perfectly.
didn't really get on with the Comply tips though, which funnily enough was what initially attracted me to them, but they are very comfy. i find the silicone buds best. the only minor gripe is some cable noise, and hearing the thump of your footsteps when walking and listening but this is ONLY when i have the largest buds in: it's the payoff for gut-wrenching bass! with the medium ones on, the bass isn't so strong (though still excellent) but you don't get the noise of the cable/walking.
hope that is of help, always find people come here to ask questions but then bugger off once they've got what they need - real customer reviews were the most useful thing for me rather than people's (often inherited) opinions.

Funnily enough I had exactly the same experience. Switching from the HPM-75 Sony's to the CX300's I found the bass much less satifsying on the CX300's. However the mid and trebble were an awful lot clearer and more detailed, which matters more to me than bass, so I'm sticking with the CX300's (not fakes either). I also found that I couldn't get the CX300 earbuds to fit, so I swapped them with the silicon buds from the HPM-75 Sony's and now they're a perfect fit (the earbids on the CX300's are a bit too rounded to fit snuggly in my ears, but fortunately they'll fir buds from other in-ear headphones).
My conclusion is that Sony went for all out for bass (which can make cheaper headphones sound 'impressive') whereas Senheiser went for a more rounded but clearer sound, so sacrificed some bass in the process.
Would be interested to try the Goldrings... how is the mid and trebble when compared to the CX300's?
