Plug earphones under £30 - whats the best choice ?

Ok - decent headphones are something a bit new to me, Ive been reading this forum with interest, but still cannot quite decide.

I like the phones on my W850i - so something of that style.

I think by the sounds of it, something like the CX300s seem my best bet.

I like the idea of the mini case for holding the earpieces as per the EX71s, but accept that the build quality of them is poor.

Im happy to go against the main brands for something that sounds better but is built to last (I will no doubt keep them in my pocket with my ipod, so a "quick" storage method (if any) would be best.

Any suggestions or questions please post.

Im not new to AV gear and have a decent lounge setup, but have never "treated" myself to decent headphones so forgive my comparative noobness to this topic.

Thanks in advance.

Let's put it this way:
If my budget was £30, I would definitely go for Sennheiser CX300.
But this is only my opinion.

I agree, I think that the CX300s are the best that I have tried in this price range.

It might be worth seeing if you can pick up a set of Goldring GX200s within your budget if you do not like massive bass.

They sound quite similar to the Senns in other ways, but the bass is slightly less overpowering.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Lab...2915715&sr=8-4

I got some of these a couple of years ago for £30, they look like the CX300s, although I don't know if the quality is as good - I've also read that the older ones had a better quality, but I haven't tried a newer version of these to compare.

But for £7...

If you don't mind dealing with eBay, I've just bought myself some CX300's from here.

It worked out around £8.22 for the CX300's, P+P and tax.

Re: Plug earphones under £30 - whats the best choice ?

The CX300 would be one of the last earphones i'd go for, for the simple reason of there being so many fakes. and the fakes are becoming far more sophisticated.

second there are some good choices out there for you. with a slight sacrifice of bass, but with a lot more detail and clarity, you could have the CrossRoads Mylar X3's

http://www.jaben.net/shopping.html

if you could go to £40 or have a look on ebay, then try for a pair Metro.fi 2's. my Goldring GX200's are speeding their way to me, but i've yet to hear a bad report about any Goldring headphones.

just be careful on the CX300's. i always say buy from amazon themselves.
