what is a headphone amp

is it the same as any music amp ?
i have a sony davs800 dvd amp combo is that suitable as a headphone amp or am i barking up the wrong tree.cheers mark

Mark...a headphone amp is basically similar to an audio amplifier for speakers,but is aimed at and optimised for use with headphones.

You should search this forum,and look for things like the Slee,Earmax,Amber,Creek etc to get an idea of what is on offer and what is being used.

This thread will also give an idea of what some here are using.
