Thanks: Gave 6, Got 0 | Closed Headphones for around £80
Will use mainly listening to ipod and DAB radio. Sound leakage at a minimum is key and also want to isolate outside sounds. Listening to wide range of music and a lot of speach based podcasts.
On the list is Sennheiser HD280's and Beyer DT770. Slight preference to the 280's at the moment.
Wondered if anyone has experience of either with an ipod - will I notice the quality?
Thanks

| Of what?
Podcasts are pretty bad quality normally(<128kbps) so the better the phone is the more you will notice the poor quality sound of the podcast.
Other phones you could also think about are the AKG K81/518, AKG K181, AKG K271, Equation Audio RP-21, Sennheiser HD25 SP ii, Sony MDR-V6/7506. These are all worthy, closed phones with mix of circum/supra aural ear pieces within the price range.
Oh yeah, I've not heard either of the 2 phones you listed but have heard the Senns are average sound quality, clamp your head pretty hard so some say are too uncomfortable, and the Beyers are said to be good sound wise and very comfortable but you might need an amp to get the best from them as they are pretty high impedance for an ipod to drive at 250 ohms. http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-ma...mic-dt-770.php http://www.personalmediareview.com/m..._best_hea.html

Erm yeah I agree oops! I hadn't really looked into them properly I just read the incorrect info in the link I posted - the link should have called them the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (80 or 250 ohms), or the DT 770 M (80 ohms). And it is the Pro version in the photo and which would be more suitable due to the M version being more ideal for drummers, apparently.

Thanks for the views. Have managed to get a short list (thats got longer!). Choices are:
Senn HD 280 Pro
AKG K271 Studio
Beyer DT770 Pro 80
Audio Technica ATH A500
I think I have dismissed the Senns and am struggling between the other 3. AKG's are in front - bulid quality looks good and I like the fact you can replace the cable. None are lookers but the AKG's are bearable.
Will stew tonight and order tomorrow.
Cheers

Crikey ... they are good value. I use the senn px200 on the train and find them very good. Just looking for something more comfortable for home use.

Why not add the Beyer DT250 to your list, a pretty good value phone that one.

Thanks for the recommendations. I certainly wouldn't bring either of those last two on the train - but look promising for home use |

Sorry for the delay in posting which ones I got in the end. Went with the AKG 271's. Very pleased. They sound very good even with podcasts and they do an excellent job keeping noise out. Build quality is very good as well - they feel like they will last. I'd recoomend them.
