Need new headphones for my ipod recommendations needed

I just bought myself a 30gig ipod video and need some decent headphones with plenty of bass but not so much it drowns out the rest of the sounds.

I mainly listen to rock, hiphop, jungle, and some oldskool motown so its a big range of music really.

I actually use some senn px200's at the moment but im actually looking for something bigger that covers the whole ear but not so big i look stupid wearing them outside on the move.

I have these few shortlisted but any other recommendations are truely welcome and my budget is around £70 maximum.

Equation rp-21
sennheiser hd465
sennheiser hd202 very cheap so not sure

Just need some help to be honest with you

Re: Need new headphones for my ipod recommendations needed

much as i love the RP21's you wouldn't want to wear them outside. they are rather on the big side. why not get yourself over to Alessandro and get a pair of MS-1's. with the absence of bass from the RP21's, the MS-1's would be a far better choice than either of your Sennheisers.

i've got the HD201's and HD212's (which i love), you could go for those (HD212's). But for the money the MS-1's are a good choice, but if you wnat bass, go for the RP21's.

I have these they might be cheap and look nasty....but they are worth all the money the sound isolation is just stunning.

Re: Need new headphones for my ipod recommendations needed

mug,
after being in the same situation as you recently i did a bit of digging in the net, i was after a pair for use in the house. i eventually got a set of alessandro ms1s, they are a modified pair of grado sr80s, when i googled ms1, i found a few articles leading back here. everyone that had a pair raved about them.
i went to richer sounds to listen to a pair(the unmoded sr80s) and took my ipod, and it sounded amazing. i have a wide range of music on my ipod and listened to the arctic monkeys to damien rice.
the sound is big and very detailed and having now purchased a pair can be worn for hours comfortably.

the only downside for using with the ipod is they arnt the most modern looking set you`ve seen and because of the design, they do leak alot of sound.
but if your not bothered about ppl listening with you they are great!!

the sr80s are around £100 to £120, however the ms1s are an improved set that are $100, working out at £50! also delivery is free.

the only thing to watch out for is you may get charged import tax + VAT.
i got mine though without getting charged but after ringing customs they said the charge would be vat + 2% approx therefore still in budget and plenty of cash in your pocket! delivery took just over a week.

the site is:http://www.alessandro-products.com/headphones.html

i am not the best at describing how they sound but for the money you cant go wrong!

hope you are successfull in your hunt!

Re: Need new headphones for my ipod recommendations needed

If you are as you say moving up from Senn PX200 as I have done, I would STRONGLY urge you to check out AKG K81DJ, they have all the qualities you are asking for, sonically, aesthetically and build-wise. You may find them at a good price as they were recently replaced by K518DJ which as far as I can tell is more or less the same specs but has black trimmings as opposed to the silver of the former model, either way they can be found for £30-40.

Suffice to say, I use them with my touch, mark I and mark II shuffles, and I am very happy. If you go for them, let me know how you get on, good luck.
