Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

Hi All

I have bought some Sony MDR-EX90 earphones from the bay recently, and now have found that they are some cheap chinese fakes. I am trying to prove to ebay and paypal that this seller is selling only fakes, and am warning his past customers.

I was just wondering if someone had a link to a good guide, with pics, on how to spot Sony earphone fakes, especially the MDR-EX90's ? I saw one somewhere a few weeks ago, but cant for the life of me find it now ! ! ! ! Or does anyone have any good ways of spotting fakes - so that I can compile a guide for everyone else on the net.

R

Mehul

Re: Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

Personally i wouldn't trust any overseas ebay sellers, or anyone who can't speak/write in English. These fraudsters are preying on the 'got to buy it as cheap as possible' mentality that exists today. If people actually used their local retailers, or even UK based internet retailers, they wouldn't have this problem.

Ebay will say they're against all these fake copies etc, but what do they care? They're making money off every listed item, as well as every transaction completed. With the amount of auctions active at any one time, there's no way in hell they could even police 5% of it. Result? They get fatter, their customers get ripped off.

This is another bloody good reason why we should be grateful we have different distributors in the UK than Europe and everywhere else. Even if we do get charged more in this country, at least you know the sellers are mostly genuine and you're not buying a complete fake. If we were part of Europe or a worldwide market, our stores as well as the internet would be swamped with crap.

Re: Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

this was a UK seller... to be fair, they are a long time ebay member with only <300 transactions in 4 years so they arent a volume rip off power seller.

Re: Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

They would come under my heading of 'ebay seller'

Surely alarm bells ring when a pair of headphones that every major store sells for £50-70 appears on ebay for £20? If i noticed a Lamborghini Diablo on ebay for £20,000 Buy It Now, i'd be extremely interested, but i'd be wondering where the catch is........

Re: Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

Im sure there are plenty of people passing the fakes off at £45plus and because of the higher price people assume they are gwtting the real deal, both on ebay and regular shops

Re: Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

If they are a UK seller report to your nearest trading standards office who will have a contact at Sony who will produce a statement to verify the origins. This can then be used to take further with ebay/paypal.

Re: Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

We're quick to accuse eBay sellers of passing off these fakes, but who is to say that we can really trust the high street either? Obviously, if you buy straight from the Sony Centre, then you are almost guaranteed that the products are genuine, but what about other stores such as PC World or Woolworths? How can we be 100% certain that these shops are receiving legit merchandise from their suppliers?

Re: Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

And to be fair to the seller, he may also believe they are genuine.

Or am I just being too kind?!

Frankly I gave up on e-bay long ago; it's full of similar scams.

Im surprised that the ones that I pointed out are fakes because they were one of the sponsored links on the google search engine when I searched to see if the earplugs were the same as my ones.

Re: Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

As lazyMatt said, they may not be aware. I would say with these headphones, anything less than normal retail very suspicious and I would need to check them at normal price. The best way is to listen to them, mine sounded crap

Re: Fake Sony Earphones - Help !

I just stupidly bought a pair of MDR-EX90LP's on eBay for £25. Wasn't surprised to find that they were fake, sound quality was dreadfull and the materials they were made of was very cheap. Informed the seller and he refunded my money. I'll be more carefull next time.

Suppling fakes

I bought a pair of MDR-EX90s from oddsandpods.co.uk and they were fake. The build and sounds quality were abissmal...

I reported the problem to the supplier who admitted he was sourcing from another supplier but he refused to give money back.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SUPPLIER!!! EVER.
