looking for in ear - NOT noise cancelling

The day I've been dreading arriving is finally here. Last week my beloved
MDR-ED31's stopped working properly. One ear just went, the usual problem
with the joint, and that was that. There were a number of things I liked
about the ED31's. Firstly it's this 'groove' ear fitting. I found it pretty comfortable after wearing in for a couple of weeks and they don't fall out. Also the 'neck chain' chord that Sony seem to favour was a real winner. Because I do a fair bit of walking around, they're a real life saver should one of the ears come out. They don't take the other earbud out with them and before you know it you've stood on them.

Usually when this happens I just pop down to the Sony shop and ask for
whatever they have in the £25-30 range. Though of course they don't make
the MDR-ED31's anymore, and all they seem to have now are those dratted noise canceling earphones where, if like me, you can hear your own footsteps when you walk echoing through your head which distracts a little from the music you're listening to! Not to mention other minor problems like not being able to hear traffic and they start hurting your ears after an hour or so etc.

Please help! After listening to humanity on the bus for a week, teenagers (init, and what's this thing with listening to their mu-sik on their phones so the whole bus can hear!?) it's slowly driving me mad.

Has anyone got any tips for what model to get that might be worth trying?

Sennheiser CX 300's are superb (as long as you don't get fake ones).
They are in-ear canal headphones, so they reduce outside noise - however they don't actively cancel external sounds (I'n not sure if this rules them out for you).
I bought a set about an hour ago from Amazon to replace my broken Skullcandy Smokin Buds.

Re: looking for in ear - NOT noise cancelling

to b e honest, most of IEM's are 'none noise canceling' earphones, regardless of what it says on the tin. it's just the nature of IEM's to be able to block out ambient noise...or not as the case may be.

personally i think you should get on over to jaben and buy a pair of CrossRoads MylarOne X3's. much as i love my CX300, they're not really on the same level as the Mylars
