Noise Cancelling cans?

I need to buy a pair of noise cancelling cans.

They are for use in a dental surgery by patients. Thus they need to be On ear rather than over ear or in ear.

There used to be a company that produced a noise cancelling box into which you could plug any headphones, but I can't seem to find anything like that at the moment - anyone got any suggestions?

Alternatively, can anyone reocmmend a set of cans with effective noise cancelling? They need to be not too expensive (£50ish). I have been looking around, and there appear to be some Senseisers (sp?) or some called Plane Quiet NC7 which look good, but I am unsure. I don't want to spring for Boses, due to the risk of damage...

Cheers

Thanks Matt

I was looking at those or the PXC300. Suspect that as most of the sounds in a dental surgery are high freq, the difference between them will be minimal so the 250 will do fine.

Re: Noise Cancelling cans?

Sennheiser are good, but for a surgery Bose Quiet Comfort 2 would be superb. These are completely over-ear and have their own battery power. Bose Quiet Comfort 3, which are smaller and on-ear, are supplied in first and business class on BA & Virgin, but the 2 series are cheaper and just as good.

Double check the tech specs carefully before you buy. If I understand it correctly, noise cancelling headphones are best at removing low frequency sounds, like the drone of an aircraft engine. A squealing dental drill may not be cut out effectively.

Re: Noise Cancelling cans?

The high frequencies in the surgery are a problem with any noise cancelling cans.

However, the type of treatment when I will be using these involve very little drilling except at the start of the appointment; the rest of the time, things are pretty quiet.

I want to avoid the over ear cans as they are quite bulky, and so may get in my way; I also want to be able to check the patient is OK periodically, so that is why the on ears are preferable (that is my perception anyway!) Thus the Bose 3's would be preferable to the 2's, but just a little too expensive; things tend to get knocked and dropped by third parties, and thus breakages can occur relatively easily - I would be gutted to spend £300 on some bose cans, and then find they break a short while later.

I reckon the Sennheisers will probably do the job, but are cheaper; I accept that there are better, but for the same price?

Any other suggestions as to cans gratefully received though...

If you imported them from outside EU, I wonder whether you got hit by customs. I know I did.
Good cans though, used them on a longhaul flight and SQ as well as noice cancelling was pretty good with/-out the inflight system. One big advantage over Bose, they still work (edit: as "normal" ear cans, not the noise cancelation) after the battery is finished (not that this would happen that easily).

Re: Noise Cancelling cans?

They arrived yesterday.... lovely cans with a superb case and accessories. Work well without the noise cancelling (though quite low volume from the ipod) and then turn them on its like opening the curtains.

The Noise cancelling works so well... tried them on the commmute into london..the rythmic tone of the train just disappears and I had a very pleasant journey Also when on I cannot go to max volume on the ipod classic.. its really loud and due to the quiet really not needed.

Also used to all day at work... and hid all the computer noise/aircon nicely.. superb for getting a bit of quiet whilst working (and listening to a couple of podcasts)

Oh and no additional charge from customs.....

Re: Noise Cancelling cans?

Matt,

what other phones have you owned and how do they compare?

also, is it true that the ATs leak a lot of sound - so that someone next to you will hear your music?

I have the ANC's too. Brilliant. They don't leak any sound.

Re: Noise Cancelling cans?

A vote for these:

Pioneer SE-MJNS

http://www.audiocubes.com/category/H...eadphones.html

You can buy from ebay as well.

Look like the creative HN-700, but thankfully sound nothing like them, very close to my Bose quiet comfort 2 and the noise cancelling is excellent. Also they fold away and the finish is far superior to the creative one (by miles).
