Shure SE420 Owners and Experiences

Hi all,

I've just bitten the bullet and orered myself a set of Shure SE420s for my new iPod Classic 160Gb. Would like to hear feedback from other owners of these rather expensive IEMs, just to put my fears to rest and resssure me that I have made a wise purchase.

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

They have had excellent reviews, I have Shure SE530's and they are stunning. People spend hundreds of £'s on Ipods and mp3 players, the headphones are the weakest link, it's worth spending money on good quality phones if you want quality sounds.

Thanks for the response and positive review. The number of views this thread has had and only one reply seems to highlight what you are saying, hardly anybody actually spends the money on getting a decent pair of earphones for their £2-300 music player. Their loss I guess.

Hi Crustyloafer:

I had a poor experience with the SE420 when partnered with my Zen Micro. I previously used E4c's/E2's now Im using the SE530's.

I felt there wasnt any improvement from the SE420 when compared to my E4c's which when considering the SE420 has a dual armature wasnt great for me. I'd hoped for an increase in bass depth, but couldnt get it no matter what fit kit I used or dap I tried, hence I went for the SE530.

There are many mixed opinions over at headfi.org.

Regards,

GJC

I am assuming from what you are saying that the SE530's do offer a good improvement compared to the E4Cs?

Night and day difference in the low end. Overall a better IEM. This could be different for others though as I use a Zen Micro.......soon to be partnered with a Go-Vibe 7.

Re: Shure SE420 Owners and Experiences

I havent used the E4C or SE420but do have the SE310 and SE530 models

The difference is massive between the two, more clarity at the low end on the SE530, with deep bass and more defined throughout the range

You definitely need to use high quality lossless formats when using these, 128Kpbs MP3 just doesnt do them justice

The sound isolation on the SE530 is also very good, i was using them at work last weekend and i didnt notice the fire alarm going off, a security guard had to come and get me

My only complaint about both models is that getting the right fit requires a bit of wiggling around at times and they can get slightly uncomfortable during prolonged use - you can use the rubberised earbud if you dont mind sacrificing a little sound isolation for additional comfort though

I can definitely recommend the SE530 over the SE310 but havent ever heard the E4C so cant make a valid comparison

This is true,i personally did not think the E500 was a huge improvement on the E4C,certainly not worth its hefty price tag IMHO.I felt it too colored in the low end, the E4C for me was better, as said before its different for everyone.
If i was looking for a significant change in sound i would just go with a different company, more bass Westone, more treble Etymotic etc.
