Thanks: Gave 89, Got 112 | IEMs for new iPod Classic
I have got a few pairs of earphones, but am considering investing in something different for my new iPod Classic.
I have currently got Sennheiser CX300s and Sony MXE082s that came with my other MP3 player - a Sony NW-A808.
When I got the Sony NW-A808, I was suprised to find that the bundled headphones sounded better than the CX300s. I have been using them ever since.
When I got my iPod Classic, I used the sony phones again, but was disappointed with the sound. I plugged in the CX300s to find they sound much better than the Sony's on my iPod.
Clearly, the way the earphones macth an individual player is important as well as the quality of the earphones themselves.
Spending around £100, am I likely to find anything that sounds significantly better than the CX300s with the iPod Classic?

I'd recommend the Westone UM1 which can be had for around £90.
IMO, Westone have the best fit of any IEM's [for my ears anyway] and the braided cable is superb...

If you can afford them, and have them shipped from the US go for Shure SE530's. They are pure quality and had some stunning reviews. |

i'm still having sonic issues with my Super.fi 5EB's, and i've been slagging them off everywhere i go.
i have been told to take 200-250 hours burning in time, for them to reveal their full glory.
apart from the appauling and inconsistant midrange (keep in mind the burn in time) they do sound o.k. I have to say in terms of build quality they as solid as a rck, and with a replaceable cable, they become an interesting purchase.
both the 5EB's the UM1's, (which are next on my list) are around the £100, but i got my super.fi's here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ue-ultimate-ea...QQcmdZViewItem
that's a good price.
i must remind myself that when i first listened to my stax headphones, i could have easily thrown them against the wall, but a little burn in can go a long way. with the 5EB's it's a matter of hoping the mids will warm up.

They really would have to be a massvie step up to justify the price.
What is a good price for these in the US? The best price I have seen in the UK is about £250.

Or if you can't find them go for the e500 same phone pretty much but different looks. If you can't stretch to those go for the Westone UM2 at about £150 all in from US.

I have just bought a pair of Shure SE420s for my new iPod Classic 160GB, first impressions are very good so far and the new style foam sleeves are much better than the rough orangey ones I got with my E2cs ages ago. I got them for £190 at iheadphones.com who were very prompt at delivering them. Highly recommended.

Really loving them but if you dont want to spend that amount they do have the E4C-G for £90 at the moment, a really good deal

Will | That is a great deal on the E4s.The E500/SE530 while subjectively a bit better is certainly not worth paying twice the price of the E4 IMHO.

I got a pair of Shure E4C-G from Amazon and they work well with my 160GB iPod Classic.
I also tried Senn CX300, Senn PX200, Senn PXC250 and the Shures are better with the iPod than these.
My Senn HD650 are better than the Shure but the iPod does not have enough power to drive them.
