Grado SR80

I've been looking at getting some half decent heaphones recently to be used on my ipod and sometimes on the tv and pc.

I really like the Grado brand because of it's old school style and look. I have found some new SR80 selling for £70.

is this a good price and would the suit for what i want to use them for ??

Re: Grado SR80

where are you getting them for £70. i'll have two pairs please.

it's a very good price, and i have to say that grado are very forgiving. they'll sound good with almost anything. just don't expect any real deep bass, nop matter what the Grado fans say.

and the last thing, prepare to be very uncomfortable. having owned the SR60 and 125, i never got used to the lack of comfort. you can remidy this with a pair of sennheiser HD414 earpads.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sennheiser-HD414...QQcmdZViewItem

the only other and most say better alternative is the Alessandro MS-1 which is basically a customised pair of SR80's.

the good thing is that they're only $99 delivered, which is around the £50 mark.

Now, the only problem is that you might get caught by customs. i got stung to the tune of a touch over £26......buuuuuuuttt.... the post office guy said "it was just unlucky that i got caught."

having said that, i've ordered......5 pairs of headphones from companies outside th UK, but i've only been stung that once.

Re: Grado SR80

I'd also like to know where you've seen them for £70. I still am looking for a pair and the HD 595's look very attractive at £85 on amazon, but if the Grado's were at that price I'd have to seriously consider them!

Tejstar, there two sellers on ebay one for £70 with free postage and there's one with more feedback for £78+postage of £1.99

I have asked the £70 is they are new and boxed and asked the £78 if they'll match the other... you never know, if you don't ask you don't get !! normally in my case............. you don't get

I will let you know as they are both showing a couple of pairs

Re: Grado SR80

At that price it's probably the Grado 'iGrado Street' ones, around £30.

UK prices for the lower end Grado won't be that low.

Just has reponses from both sellers, the £70 are new and boxed with no postage as of yesterday.... then today they are now showing £74 with a low feedback and 1 negative in the past 3 months.

So... i have just bought the £78 from a seller with good feedback and it's one i've been monitoring over the past few weeks.

Fingers crossed they're as good as everyone makes out !!

Re: Grado SR80

Do they provide decent warranty backup when buying from ebay? I think looking for best price only and especially using ebay can be false economy. The store i work for sell grado but we repair and replace whenever necessary and are authorised dealers, this will cost you an extra 10 or so pounds so i suppose you pay your money and take a chance. I can tell you that no UK authorised dealer of Grado should be selling on ebay, not trying to put you off or sell anything just hopefully helping

Re: Grado SR80

Recieved the cans today only opened the box, not tried them just yet as i'm at work.... my question is that can you get dodgy ones.... the reason i ask is that the box is only about 6cm deep with the headphones folded flat in some foam an adapter and warranty card..... is this correct as they don't feel very substantial for the price !!!!

I suppose the sound will be the telling ?

Yep that sounds like the standard Grado packaging. The build quality is not impressive even on the higher end models, and the packing not much better even on the top of the range.

Re: Grado SR80

I tried out the SR-80, I found the bass a bit whoompy/muffled, mate has Grado SR-325i, and I managed to get RS-1's as for build quality, they look flimsey but are quite tough (unlike Sennheiser which look tough but are flimsy)
