Cool Can I use a pair of stax (from Japan) headphone amps in UK?

Dear Readers,

I go to Japan about once per year. I have noticed on a certain website:

www.pricejapan.com, that a stax headphone and a stax amp are both, more than half price from this website, or from Japan, if I don't pay any tax on them!

I am just wondering am I able to purchase a good quality power converter, and be able to use them on a UK amplifier? and mains?

I know it says 100volts only! But its more than half price cheaper, well, say 60%+ cheaper!

Even if I get it at this price, and pay import duties, its still a heck of a lot cheaper tha UK prices.

But, I don't know if it will work in the UK?

Any help, would be ver much appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

Re: Can I use a pair of stax (from Japan) headphone amps in UK?

funny enough i was going to put my stax sr001 system and power convertor on ebay.

i'm currently answering you from an internet cafe in Prague, i'm on my way home.

but to answer you question, i got mne from www.audiocubes.com and i brought the power convertor for about a tenner from maplins.

as far as you hook up the power convertor properly, you should have no problems.

if you send a reply and i don't answer propmply, please don't be angry, i'll probably be at 35,000 feet.

So it should work.

I thought there was something about 50hz and 60hz, and also voltage as well!

But maybe a power convertor can take of this?

just take it into maplins and they should be able to help you out. but in answer to your questioon, yes, eeverthing should be o.k.

power convertors are power convertors, i gues it'ss not rocket science to those who know about it, and maplins should be able to help you out

P.S. although i haven't worked out all the key on this keyboard, i have worked out that it's a touch screeen system.....brilliant.

Cool Re: Can I use a pair of stax (from Japan) headphone amps in UK?

Hi,

Thanks! Sounds good!

I go to Japan, in December every year! And I always get something at a much better price than UK! I.e. ps3, psp, Ipod, games etc. Clothes as well! And many more stuff, which I post to myself as well!

This year, I plan to purchase quite alot of stuff from Yesasia.com. And send it to Japan(no VAT + delivery charge, and 30%-40%+ cheaper!), and as well as shopping there.

The Stax system, would this be over the top for my set up: DVD A1XVA, and AVC A1XVA? Denon Link as well.

I thought a STAX system is for something worth £15k+ But I guess my set up is still a very good all round system!

Thanks again! I am so excited! I wouldn't have got them at UK prices(unless I was a true audiophile, which I am not yet anyway! They see to be suited for those of a more attuned sense of appreciation of music and sound), but at Japan prices, it just seems too good to be true!

I do need something in the meantime, and a Sein HD 650 does seem good at £169.99 at Amazon.co.uk. And would still be amazing as a back up pair!

Also, I think in Japan, there are lots of people who can help people from foreign countries, I remember, I got 2 convertors for 2 of my equipment I purchased from Japan. And the advice was second to none!

Even thouh I could't understand Japanese, but I had a translater!

The only other thing you should consider is that of warranty issues....many goods imported this way are not covered by the UK dealer network, and whilst they are very unlikely to fail,it's just something to bear in mind.

Hi,

Just to confirm everything so far:

No problem with the voltage i.e 100v and uk 240v, and the 50hz and 60hz is not an issue aswell. As a converter will sort this out or transformer!

Only thing is warranty, unless it is an international, which it probably isn't.

Mmmm, plus its atleast 60% cheaper, depending on exchange rates at time of purchase aswell.

About warranty, hopefully it won't be bad at all.

If there is, I have relatives who can help out, and the times of the year I go t Japan, can vary!

Overal, should be interesting! I hope this is all clear enough and straight forward!
