Some nice head phones upto £100 please

HI,

I'm after some decentish headphones please and willing to spend a max of £100. Not going to be driven from a headphone amp just from my ipod/cd player.

I've seen some excellent reviews of the grado sr60's and 80's.

Can anyone confirm they are excellent I like quite bassey music but listen to quite a bit of varied stuff really. Its hard to get a demo like speakers etc so going to have to go from peoples opinions and reviews etc!

Thanks
Mark

Re: Some nice head phones upto £100 please

Hi

The Grados are a good choice, I demo 60-80-125's all getting better up the range. 16Ohm so MP3 player friendly

Personally I pushed the boat out and got some Sen's 600s(150ish Play.com or superfi) them the wife nicked them so I got a replacement 650s for 165 amazon.
very natural sound and very loud outside as there open backed.
Bass is not over emphsized but very controlled
300 ohm so you need to turn the volume up for MP3 portables

If you want megabass closed back may suit you better like HD25 or 280, Ive not demoed these so its just a guess

if its just portable use id go in ear if you can Shure E2c(I have these) or E3c

you really should demo if possable, there is a Superfi in Lincoln there should be some other shops too, just get on the phone before you go

Re: Some nice head phones upto £100 please

much as i like my Grado SR60 and 125, i wouldn't necessarily call them bassy. the Grados are very forgiving when it comes to the source you're using. but i've yet to hear a "bassy" pair of grados.

i brought the HD280's to replace my Bose Triports, and to put it mildly i was very disappointed. i found the bass very recessed.

My HD25, i've had for over 10 years, and with a touch of refurbishment, i still think they're amazing. i never thought that bass was their strong point, but attached to my Go-Vibe V5 headphone amp, the HD25's really thump.

you can get them for under £100.

My Denon AH-D1000's arrived yesterday, and they are very light weight and they sound great.

i know the country is in very short supply for the AH-D1000, because i rang 6 merchants (after i'd made my order) and no-one had them in stock.

if you're thinking of the Grado's, then why not go for the Alessandro MS-1?

$99 shipped, but you might get stung by customs. i got stung once for my Equation Audio RP21's this week, it cost me £25.34, but for the MS-1's, that means they're still cheaper than the equivalent SR60 or SR80 ( the MS-1's are based on the 80's).

I like the look of those (they look comfortable too!), but $399 I've just done £249.99 on some SE530

The AKG 81 fit can be uncomfortable after 40 min. or so...

OOOPS - I see the Pros are about £80
