Shure - E5c or SE530

Which ones are the best.
I had the E5c's before they stopped working the other day and dont know which ones to get.
Which ones have the best sound quality and which ones block out the most sound

Cheers

Re: Shure - E5c or SE530

How long have you had the E5Cs? Don't forget that Shure do a 2-year warranty.

Took delivery of my SE530s on Tuesday. Still keep smiling whenever I listen to anything I thought I knew well - and anything I didn't!

From what I've read, the SE530's are in a different (much improved) league sonically from the E5Cs. They also come with the new black foam sleeves that are supposed to block sound extremely well. I haven't tried them because I'm allergic - and have always used the grey flex sleeves with the E4Cs I had previously - so can't tell you from personal experience.

Go for the SE530s - you won't regret it

Oh by the way, have you checked that the E5Cs don't just need cleaning??

My Shure experience is this E2c/E4/SE420-k (lasted one day! awful!!). I'm now VERY happy with my SE530's that arrived today. As Christam says get the 530's!!

Re: Shure - E5c or SE530

I've just sent my E4c's back as the left one has stoped working, but 18m into the 2 year warranty.

I'm hoping that they will need to be replaced. if so, i might see if they will let me upgrade to the SE530, if i pay the difference

Fingers crossed...

I had the same problem with my E4c's the Left channel started cutting out. They've pretty much travelled around the globe with me and have a fair share of punishment over the 16 months I’ve had them. Completely forgot about the 2 year warranty and I've just stumped up for the SE530's.

What a difference though, I was a fan of the E4'cs but the SE530's bring a whole world of musicality and bass that was always slightly lacking on the more clinical E4c's even with a good in ear fit. I’ve had my new SE530 for a week now and I'm working my way through my favourite tracks on my trusty NW-HD5H and enjoying them even more than ever.

I highly recommend the SE530's, if you can afford the extra cash...go for them. You'll not be disappointed.

P.S. I think I’ll look into to the warranty on my E4c’s as ‘she who must be obeyed’ could do with a new set of phones for her iPod. Just a shame her birthday's not until January or I could have saved some cash on the present.

Shure have been brilliant so far. I Just called the number on the UK website and someone logged all the details. I didnt need to send all the accesories and original box, just sent the phones and the little black carry case.

Fortunatately i bought them from dabs, so was able to fish out a purchase confirmation from "my order history".

Seen your recommendation about the upgrade and noted - just what i neede to know .

Re: Shure - E5c or SE530

Had the e5c and e500 (same as e530 except in looks) I soon sold my e5c. A better phone than the e5c but at half the price when new are the Westone UM2. They use the same drivers but ever thing else is better. Comfort, foamies, price, looks, etc

Is that what you mean by drivers? They have same drivers just tuned differently and crossover. Do you know how to use google?

I used Google for you instead - http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=151568

Thanks for editing the link in - I'm not questioning Westone's ones comments on Head-Fi 'I wanted to read the facts only. I'm more interested in the technical info Re: Crossover's/Filters/etc that make them different. I'll do some digging.

I edited the link to help you out( while you were posting), anyway this thread is about trying to help the person with a possible replacement headphone.

I thought you wanted me to substantiate my claim not know the facts about the crossovers, filters, etc? I said the drivers were the same ....

Anyway I have had the Westone UM2, e5c and now the e500 (assumed the same as e530). I would say the UM2 are the best value for sound at around c£140 + postage new and in my opinion better all round than the e5c. The e500 are best for sound.

Thanks for linking the information drivers substantiated. Shame all of your responses to me had to be sarcastic though.....otherwise cheers.

My advice to the op check out the UM2 as well a very nice IEM for the price as already mentioned.

Westone are releasing a new IEM 'UM3' shortly and that looks very promising (£expensive though $399.99).

Re: Shure - E5c or SE530

I wasn't being sarcastic. I just said read the thread or do a google whats sarcastic about that you started it. $399 is not expensive (if that is dollars) as that is less than the top of the line Shures that it competes against.

The UM2 are very very good but I couldn't justify keeping two in-ears so they had to go.

Re: Shure - E5c or SE530

Look's like i'll have to postpone the potential pleasures of the SE530, as Shure have kindly sent me a brand new pair of E4c's to replace my faulty pair. I didn't get an upgrade option, which was a little disappointing. I would have prefered them in black now (now have a black nano), but Shure won't change them. Still, now that the E4 is an old model, they were probably happy enough to send them.

Hmmm maybe someone will buy the E4's off me (in white). Must be worth 100-120 quid for "brand new boxed" (as they say at richer sounds...). Any thoughts ??
