Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones....anyone own them ?

Hello there, i have been considering buying a set of Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones, and was wondering if anyone had any views on them, good or bad ! ?
I suffer from M.E. and i'm extremely " noise sensitive " hence the need to try to block out noises. I'm particuarly sensitive to repetive noise, such as, dogs barking, DIY, and even the birds singing !
I've read different reviews, some suggesting they block out the examples i have mentioned, and some not ! If anyone as any advice, or experience of using Bose Headphones, i'd be most grateful, for any input !

Re: Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones....anyone own them ?

There are other noise canceling headphones on the market almost all of which would be far better

Try Ultrasone (all new technology)

There a newish company with new designs, safer designs i.e. dramatically lower electro/magnetic radiation levels
Designed for professionals for all day use

At first listen they may not be all that impressive; they become magical with fifty or a hundred hours of burn in

English Hi-Fi magazines have always advocated burning in speakers obviously the same technology exist in headphones so they too benefit from burn in !

I have the Ultrasone HFI-2200 ULE’s
Best headphone I've ever had in my long long career as a hi-fi fanatic

Involving headphone that makes it interesting to listen to genres of music that I would not have tried previously

Also AKG, Sennheiser or any of the other well known brands
What you are looking for is Hi-Fi sound quality as well as noise canceling !

Knox are you being paid by ultrasone?

You've copy and pasted half of that post from your other one! I know that they are good cans and well worth recommending... but noise canceling?

OK I might be a little over enthusiastic but I was sure Ultrasone had a noise canceling headphone
It’s a difficult to find out their range here on the other side of the planet
I apologize to Dixie4 if I’ve been misleading !

i'm in somewhat of an agreement here. i've got a pair of the ultrasone proline 750's, but i'm failing to correlate the link between ultrasone and the Bose quite comfort.

I use my QC2s on long flights as the noise cancelling is effective and I like the sound quality. I also find them very comfortable and I tend to keep them on for 11-12 hours without any problem.

My dad has QC 2's and I have compared them with my Etymotic Research ER4S. They sound very inoffensive to my ears and are comfortable to wear but my ETY's are in a different league when it comes to sound quality and noise isolation.

Re: Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones....anyone own them ?

Hi

I have tried Sony, Panasonic and Sennheiser noise cancelling headphones.

Although I hate to admit it because I don't generally consider Bose to make audiophile equipment, the QC2 definitely has the best noise cancelling of the bunch. Perfect companion for flying. However remember the noise reduction is biased towards lower frequencies on all the headphones. Chops out the engines but you can still here the stewardess!

The QC2 sound quality is inoffensive, if not up to the standard of my usual tipple being the Sennheiser hd650, but if noise cancelling is what your after then they are the ones I would choose

cheers

Re: Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones....anyone own them ?

I've only listened to Bose noise canceling headphones for a short time (in the bose shop). However I found them to be reasonably good headphones. Not good enough for the money though.

If it was my money, I would go for something closed back with a good seal around the ear. To me noise canceling seems like a gimmick.

Hi Dixie4,

I agree with 'phil' the Etymotic Research ER4S in ear canal headphones are the best bet to keep out the barking dogs, screeching birds etc

In the research I've been doing the comment I thought was most revealing was "In an airplane the noise canceling headphones will cut the noise from a roar to a whisper but the Etymotic Research ER4S in ear canal headphones will make it silent”

If you can learn to tolerate and love the in canal experience these may be the way to go, they have different size tips for different size ear canals
I’m sure ‘phil’ will be happy to explain how this all works

Cleanliness is of coarse of paramount importance but no more onerous than cleaning contact lenses and the boxes they live in !

Much of this work was in schools and colleges

Dear Knox,
Thank you for taking the time to send the information. I must admit, my concern was that i wouldn't be able to tolerate in ear canal headphones.....but i guess the only way to find out, is to try them ! I'm pleased to find out, that they are supplied with different tips, which may be very useful !
M.E. is also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.....i won't bore you with all the symptoms, but as i said in my original post, i'm very " noise sensitive !.....hopefully, i will find a suitable solution, to help with this problem ! Thanks again !

Rob.

i have the QC2 headphones and they work great on the airplane...thats where you experience true power of QC'2 ability for noise cancelling...if you travel alot, then QC2's are the one to buy...however i am not convinced they would suit all your needs.. simplest option is to try out the QC2's with the BOSE 28 day money back offer...

Re: Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones....anyone own them ?

For the price the QC2's are a rip off. The sound quality is average, to say the least. From what I've read of your post the Sennheiser HD280 Pros are what you want. These totally isolate you from the outside. When I use these on aircraft, apart from the now reduced hum from the engines, I can't hear what's going on outside of these phones. If you add to that these phones well defined midrange and treble presentation, your music sounds really good. A portable headphone amp like the Go Vibe 5 will add to this and boost your bass though not unnaturally.

Re: Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones....anyone own them ?

So I used to own the QC2 and they were decent, but I did not like how bulky they were and the sound quality was just OK (boomy bass). I eventualy switched to Etymotics (6 and then 6i) although I now use Ultimate Ears. The in the ear phones have better reduction of noise levels and nearly world class sound quality. However, they do take some getting used to and some may find them less comfortable. For me the better sound quality and small size was the deal maker.

Another problem with in the ears is that you can't eat and listen as the sound of chewing is loud (try chewing with your fingers in your ears and you will see what I mean).

I have not used the new Bose QC3s which are a bit smaller.

bose qc2, brilliant headphones and the noise cancellation works well. I use them in a workshop repairing computers and they cancel most of the noise and sound great too!

Re: Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones....anyone own them ?

I've heard the new QC3s effects are more noticeable (in a bad way), causing ear pressure from the sound waves used in the noise cancellation, mainly if you have no external sound source.
As they sit on the ears, rather than around the ears like the QC2 I assume they have a higher power noise-cancellation output.

I'm keen to get something to reduce the drone from engines on flights, I was looking at trying to get a pair of QC3 from the US to benefit from the excellent exchange rate, but now I'll look at the QC2s. (The UK prices are ridiculous for a pair of headphones). I'm far more interested in the noise cancellation features, if sound is a little muddy or bright, I can cope with that on a flight as it'll only be supplied by an iPod anyway - I leave top notch hi-fi audio for our home

What are they like if your fellow passenger is talking to you, I assume they only cancel out lower frequencies such as engine boom?

Be interested to see how people are getting on with noise cancelling headphones...

I really like my QC2s. Think that the sound quality is better than some people think, and with a source with tight bass the quality is good.

Cancelling works great on a flight. Wouldn't want to have a conversation with the headphones on, but could do... Advantage is that one would at least hear the other person talking, and be able to respond. Would need to turn music off, but with just the cancellation effect one could have a chat...

Getting off a plane or train, I don't feel tired when I've worn my headphones. Without them, I do. That's worth the money for me.

Re: Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones....anyone own them ?

Sonically, they are great but they are an expensive habit. there are certain well know weaknesses with them - particularly the mechanics. The twisting headphone is easily broken no matter how well you look after it. And if you encounter any problem with the electrics you will have to replace them. What Bose dont tell you is that the only thing than=t can be repaired/replaced is the cable. Anything else and forget it...you will have to buy a new pair.

I am on my 6th pair in 5 years. I use them every day on the train and I really look after them but they are not as well made as they need to be.

I can afford to keep replacing them although it is very frustrating. I wish someone could make a better pair but they havent and I will continue having to buy a new pair every year or so.

6 pairs in 5 years - don't they have a warranty!!

I'd suggest trying the Sennheiser PCX450 around £160 at the moment at Dabs - at least they stand by their products.
