What headphones are you using in your cinema room?

So I've given up trying to get a battery for a my Sennheiser wireless 5.1 phones (ebay they go) and decided instead to invest in a new pair of bins. Just interested to hear what others are using (for cinema / gaming rooms only) and your opinions. Looking at lots of the reviews both on here and external I think it's time to go wired.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Nige

Edit - budget of around £150.

For movie watching, I use a Pioneer SE-DIR800c set which I've had for a couple of years now. They were about £250 new so you might be able to pick a set up second hannd for around your budget. I think they've been discontiued in the UK, as has the equivalent Philips ones.

I'm generally happy with them. The Dolby Headphone effect works qute well for me and they are light and comfortable. I will probably think about upgrading if/when the Yamaha / SVS product sees the light of day.

For £150 you can take your pick between the Sennheiser 600/650 and the AKG 701.

Good quality music headphones should sound good for games and movies too.

Re: What headphones are you using in your cinema room?

For some reason I find closed cans work better for cinema for me than open cans, so I use my audio technica A900LTDs for cinema use. They're discontinued, but bluetin have the latest audio technica LTDs on pre-order right now, the A950LTD. I can't recommend them specifically seeing as nobody has heard them, but if you give it a little while the reviews will come in and I'd be surprised if they were vastly different.

However, if you were going to be using them for music at any stage, then the Sennheiser HD650 or AKG K701 option would be much better, as the A900LTDs are a clear second best to these two, in my opinion.

You could consider something from Ultrasone.

They are abit like marmite in that you either love them or hate them. However the way they position their drivers is supposed to make them sound "surround sound like".

Although I would definitely listen to a pair before investing as they polarise opinions.

I'm heading down to Richer Sounds later to try out the Sennheiser HD 280 and 595 bins .. I guess as with most things the proof will be in the listening ..

Re: What headphones are you using in your cinema room?

Ended up going for the 280s. I compared with the 595 and to be honest there wasnt a lot in it. The plus side for the 595s was you could hardly feel them on your ears, with the minis being not a lot of bass and of course sound escaping due to their design.

For the 280s you of course know your wearing a pair of bins but for the price the sound quality is fantastic. Bass is very good - I put them through some work last night with a selection of movies, games and even some music channels. NBA2K6 on the 360 has a lot of music in it (dont ask me why I've got that) and it sounded awsome. Also for me the zero sound escape is important as it means I can ramp up the volume late at nite without disturbing my wife.

I aloso managed to knock them down from £100 to £75 which is the price I saw them on amazon so good stuff.

As Lawrenzini recommended try the Ultrasone’s
There a newish company with new designs, safer designs i.e. dramatically lower electro/magnetic radiation levels
Designed for professionals for all day use

At first listen they may not be all that impressive; they become magical with fifty or a hundred hours of burn in

English Hi-Fi magazines have always advocated burning in speakers obviously the same technology exist in headphones so they too benefit from burn in !

I have the Ultrasone HFI-2200 ULE’s
Best headphone I've ever had in my long long career as a hi-fi fanatic

Involving headphone that makes it interesting to listen to genres of music that I would not have tried previously
