Smile Newbie Set-Up - Why do I need a Headphone Amp

I've neglected listening to music for too long now (since home cinema entered my life in 98) so have invested in some new kit for the bedroom.
Ive bought second hand Arcam Alpha 7 amplifier, Arcam Alpha 7SE cd player and Arcam Alpha 8p power amplifier. I already had Marantz ST4000 tuner, Yamaha 393 casette player and I've just purchased a new Project Expression II turntable and a pair of Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo 3 speakers and Grado SR225 headphones to replace an ageing pair of AKG K-140's.

Why would I need a headphone amplifier ? Both the integrated Arcam 7 and Arcam 8P have headphone sockets, so is there a quality issue with these outputs ?

Cheers if you take the time to reply.

Should have read the Read First thing at the top, but there you are. You're still welcome to reply if you have any nuggets.

Try out the current setup if your happy stick with what you got as you don't want to go down this route unless you feel you really have too.

You don't !

I'm jealous of all your gear !

All that Arcam gear costs an arm and a leg here in Australia

I new I shouldn't have migrated all those years ago !

Arcam are famous for their quality, including their output to headphones !

Enjoy your music !
