UE triple fi 10s. Anyone tried them?

I own the UE .5 pro clear and Shure E4c headphones. However, I notice that UE have released a triple.fi 10 metallic blue IEM. Anyone tried them yet? I couldn't find any posts on here regarding them.

I believe that Amazon have been taking orders for a while but haven't shipped yet. There are companies in the states that ship, but I'm always wary of customs and their duty.

I'll let you know if I find anywhere in the UK selling them.

The review I've seen have been positive. Some say the Shures are better, some say the UEs.

I guess it's down to personal preference. I phoned amazon yesterday to see if they were the limited edition ones but no one knew, they recommended i buy them and send them back if there not. i've seen them on earphone soultions for $399 +$38 tracked postage to the uk. Not a bad price but if you get hit with customs they could work out very expensive.

I strongly suspect these are not the limited editions, but if you are willing to check I'd be grateful Did Amazon give any indication of delivery time? It says 1 to 2 weeks, but that is generally Amazon speak for "whenever the next lot arrive"

Re: UE triple fi 10s. Anyone tried them?

Hi,

I got mine (the SE version, #520/1000) yesterday from handheldaudio.co.uk. They were £230 inc postage. I've had them on order for a couple of months - I just missed the cut on their first shipment.

Anyway, up to now I've used Etymotic ER-4P (and S) with my Headroom Total Airhead amp and various Archos and now iPod 80gb. The triple.fis are superb. I can barely stop listening. They're every bit as transparent as the Ety's (possibly even more), but they have bass. It's not overblown either.

Always hard describing sound, but let's just say that instead of constantly skipping through my 5000 shuffled tracks, I'm now listening to everything from start to finish, because it sounds so good!

No idea what the Shure E500s are like, but they're more expensive anyway (although up to two days ago I was starting to consider that an extra £50 for the Shures might be worth putting an end to my wait). Strong recommendation from me.

talk to handheld audio. I was just over there (about an hour or two ago) buying a set of UE5 Pros. I think they said they could get hold of them. I'd be surprised if they couldn't as they are the UK stockist according to the UE web site.

I've emailed handheld audio earlier about them just waiting on their reply. Did your roadie case come personalised with your name or was that just with the first batch released

Hi Tony,

2 points:
Does the Total Bithead make a difference when the device has no line out? I have an Archos 500 and I can't really notice a difference with a CMOY attached to the headphone socket.

Also, I've seen the Shures for £249. Hence my dilemma. I own the 5 pros and the Shure E4cs. Overall I think I prefer the UEs, but sometimes they are too overbearing at mid-volume whereas the Shures are more refined.

Anyhoo, glad to hear the 10s are good!

lisnalee, the roadie case had "triple-fi 10 pro" (from memory), rather than a name. From my POV this is better than having your name on anyway, as that just makes it harder to sell on later (when that pesky upgrade urge bites again).

JimBob, I have the Total Airhead (effectively same as Bithead). Excuse my ignorance, but what's a CMOY? I had an Archos 500, and agree, it's a bit of a pain not having a proper line-out. But I find its extra cross-channel feature, where a little bit of the left channel is fed to the right channel (with slight delay), and vice versa, intended to somewhat mimic listening to speakers, although subtle, is actually very effective. Anyway my 500 packed up, and the 80gb 504 that it was replaced with just wasn't up to the job. Pathetic output, and hissy too, hence the iPod.

Can't advise on the choice for you (sorry!). I can only recount my own experiences.... good luck with your final choice, though I suspect you'd be delighted with either. The UEs are quite big though...

Tony

Tony, a CMoy is a type of amp named after its originator, Chu Moy.

Thanks for the info, still waiting on a reply back from them. I might try and phone them later on

Re: UE triple fi 10s. Anyone tried them?

I took the plunge and went down to Handheldaudio today (The benefits of living in London)

Yes, they are the limited editions. I now have #792 out of 1000.

A quick summary:

If you have the pro 5s you'll recognise the type of sound, but better in all areas. There isn't a night and day difference, more like noon compared to half past 4 But the treble is sweeter, midrange slightly better (so far) and bass stronger. All in all they make music sound more refined (but I don't mean boring: They can still rock, but they sound more effortless).

I haven't tested them on great equipment, only my Archos 500 and my computer. Perhaps the difference between it, the 5 pros and the E4cs will be more apparent with better gear.

I'll be interested to see if they improve with time (I've only used them for about 1 hr) but I am noticing little things I hadn't with the other phones (if I swap the old phones in I can hear the 'new' things, but they aren't as marked as they wear on the 10s)

They are a little harder to drive than my year old 5s, but not excessively so.

Sizewise they are about 7 or so mm longer than the 5s, so relatively big, but they look nice.

I was pleased with the roadie tin and grey carry tin, but was a bit surprised not to get the UE leather case like I did with my 5s. Oh well.

Worth £225? Dunno. Diminishing returns and all that, but then again I wasn't happy to pay £100 odd for the 5s and £130 odd for the E4Cs! As I say, perhaps the difference will be greater with better equipment than mine, but there is a definite difference at the moment.

I'd like to compare them with the Shure E500s. Anyone in London with a pair who wants to spent a little time comparing? If so, get in touch.
