new phones

Thought it was about time I got some proper hifi cans to replace my sennheiser HD25SP DJ ones. This seems like a very good deal to me

http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/headpho...rado+SR+60.htm

I know these are highly rated for the price, has anyone ordered from this firm at all?

Re: new phones

Never heard of the company but their website looks ok.

If you want the SR60's buy the Alessandro MS1 $99 inc international delivery. They are modified Grados and are similar in performance to Sr80 (I have even heard claims about them being close to 125's.)

http://www.alessandro-products.com/headphones.html

I have the SR60's and I also have the Goldring GR150's (also £60) and i would rate the Goldrings as significantly better.

Anyway, abit more info for you

Re: new phones

Thanks

I've been reading that the Grados are not the best for bass so they may not be the best for me anyway (my musical preference being dance/electronic)

How do your Grados compare to the Goldrings basswise?

Hmm... difficult. I listen to the Grado's with the Senn yellow foamies, which although comfy put quite abit of distance between the headphone and your ear. This affects the bass and therefore it is difficult to make a direct comparison as the goldrings sit much tighter on the ear.

I listen to quite alot of dance and I'd say that the Grado's wouldnt be the obvious choice for me. Rock YES, dance maybe not.

I understand the 80's have much better Bass (therefore the alessandro's should)

Re: new phones

The goldrings have certainly not escaped my attention. For one thing they look a lot more comfortable than the grados. So would you say they produce a decent level of bass when listening to dance music?

My sennheisers have plenty of bass but I find them to be lacking in the other frequencies, although it could be my hifi which is the problem there (one which I'm in the process of rectifying)

Re: new phones

Are your cans going to be amped?

Another option might be the Beyerdynamic DT770/80.

Re: new phones

i brought my Ultrasone Proline 750’s from iheadphones, and apart from the fact they were out of stock, everything went smoothly.

i would recommend them to anyone and I'm going back for more headphones from them soon, in the way of the Ultrasone icans.

on the point of the SR60's, aprt form comfort, i would say they are the best headphones under £100 (RRP) and at £65 it's a bargain. dson't expect thumping bass.

no - I don't have a headphone amp. Does this affect my choice then?

Some cans are very hard to drive and really require a headphone amp. The grados don't really although will probably be improved by an amp.

The Beyer DT 770 are 250-ohms impedance so would fall into this catagory.

The grados are only 32 ohms so much easier...

Re: new phones

I've just ordered SR225's from iHeadphones and they seem on the up and up, should be receiving my cans tomorrow by courier. Will post again to let you know the result.
