Have you considered (as well as the senn 300 already recommended) the following:

1) ED21LP Sony
http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/...oducts_id=2082

2) Audio Technica ATH-EC7

Some places selling for £90 but on eBay from good dealers and if you shop around can come in under £30

I wouldn't bother with the e2c, for £15 more + postage you can get e3c from US (good dollar to pound). Check eBay also for retailers with 1000+ feedback!

The MX550 are ok but the ATH-EC7 beat them comfortably. The ED21 have better bass than MX550 and can be had from argos for under £20 or online for under £15!

Re: help with headphones please

CX300 in ears are good. The only thing is the cable noise can annoy at first. I would recommend for general listening but if your jogging then perhaps not. Sound does not leak so great for the train or plane.

Re: help with headphones please

I currently own the Senn CX300s and, while I think they're a fine set of earphones for the money I paid for them, I'd personally stretch to the £35 delivered that Amazon is currently offering the black E2s for. Of all the lower end IEMs, the E2 or the Etymotic ER6 present the most evenly balanced signatures, in my opinion. The CX300s are good, and I'd recommend them over things like the Sony EX range any day, but the step up to the Shure/Ety sounds is marked. As Reano has said, the E3s are even better, but at £35 the E3s are pushing on double the price, and then you're better off with the E4s and things just spiral out of control. But within the £45 originally quoted, the £35 delivered for the E2s is a steal, for me.
