Sennheiser HD650 + NAD C352 Amp?

Hallo,
Have been researching headphones and think I might be able to stretch to Sennheiser HD650's or similar (am open to recommendations!). I have a NAD C352 amp, 522 cd & 422 tuner but note that there are amps for headphones. Is my 352 amp powerful enough for these phones or would you recommend a separate amp.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,
Many thanks,
Roob

Re: Sennheiser HD650 + NAD C352 Amp?

Just had a quick Google and found the following;
http://nadelectronics.com/products/h...mplifier/specs

Quote:
Line Level Outputs
Output impedance Pre Out 100 ohms
Tape Z Source + 1kΩ
Headphones 220 Ω
The Senn HD 650 is 300 Ohm, so you would be able to use them with the NAD but I don't know how well they would be driven - Ideally, for the best sound, you would want an amp which could drive the 650's well but I would have thought you would get an OK sound from the NAD (don't hold me to that though ).

Re: Sennheiser HD650 + NAD C352 Amp?

I would imagine that you will get a very acceptable sound from your NAD.I have tried mine through a Pioneer PDR 609 cd recorder £250 , and Audiolab 8000Q pre amp £1100 and only noticed small improvements with the latter over the former. My source in both cases is my Primare cd player . This is a casual observation as over long listening periods the dearer headphone connection might well be superior, but I have not been immediately struck by huge differences.
I would really like to try Graham Slee or a valve amp or the Sugden preamp but Iworry that I would be stuck with something that doesn't improve the sound quality .I listen to classical music and it sounds wonderful with the SENN. 650's .In fact I am quite disappointed with my" normal " system since I bought the SENNS a year ago. That consists of tagMclaren 125 monoblocks and Mission 752 F. speakers along with the Primare cd player and Audiolab preamp.I'm only sorry I didn't discover good quality headphones years ago and saved myself a couple of thousand quid

Re: Sennheiser HD650 + NAD C352 Amp?

Thanks for the input DorKnight & BrianPK, I'm not technical, so the difference in impedances between my amp impedance 220ohm and the HD650 300ohm is a mystery to me in terms of whether this matters too much or not. Should I go for headphones with a lower impedance as I can't afford a headphone amp too?
Thanks,
Roob

You will not be disappointed with headphones of this quality.I am certain of that.I find the sweetness and the detail wonderful but the increase in the sense of involvement has to be heard to be believed.
Some people say that Grados are better for rock but with my love of classical I have never regretted my choice.Buy with confidence.
