fixing Sennheiser PMX 200

the full story is a long story but basically during a fit of road rage i snapped the cord of my PMX 200. I have cut part of the insulation away of the two ends which covers three coloured wire like strands (red, green and yellow i think). I have tried to touch the the ends of the matching coloured strands together but no sound.
The strands do not appear to be copper or any other type of metal and they all contact each other when in the insulation.
Looking closer the coloured strands seem to be covering wire cotton like strands but still no luck when conecting end to end with these.
Is the electrical signal conducted in fibre optic in these headphones? and if so do i have any chance of fixing them?

Re: fixing Sennheiser PMX 200

Hi,

Luckily it's a simple answer. the wires are coated with a varnish like substance which provides the insulation between the left/right/ground.

To solder this you'll need to burn off the coating with a hot soldering iron, a solder pot or a lighter/match. be careful of course and don't burn too much.

As you won't be able to insulate the re-connected wires with the same substance you'll need to cover any joints with heatshrink or the like so the wires are not touching each other and shorting out.

Regards

Steve
