Where to try?

I'm currently looking at replacing my Sony EX70 ear buds which I have had for a while now. I know I don't really get a great deal of chances to listen to my Ipod through them except on holiday or a bit in bedtime but when I do, although they started off sounding impressive, I think I can see through the boom tizz and I find the sound quite muddy at times.
I would like to look into the next grade up, so to speak, with models from Shure or Etymotic.
However, is there anywhere that you can go for a quick audition? I'm sure I don't need hours to decide and I would have thought putting them in would reveal improvements straight away?

BTW I am in the midlands area but work in Luton so can travel.
