Revised opinion of Grado SR125

After a week of disappointment I decided to burn in the 'phones for 72 hours straight - with hindsight, this is something I should have done in the beginning! The sound has improved dramatically. I said earlier that the sound was muddy when compared to my Sennheiser HD600 - that veil has now been lifted and the 'phones have really come alive. The bass is fast and the upper frequencies are gloriously crisp, perhaps a little too crisp. The Sennheiser's warmth does suit some music better, but the Grados are a breath of fresh air with rock music. The treble can be a bit too much sometimes, but it's not a major problem. I am now finally seeing what all the fuss is about.

A lot of people have complained about the comfort factor (or lack of), but to be honest I don't find the Grados to be that uncomfortable. The foam pads are a bit naff though. After an hour or so my outer ears do feel a little tender and I usually give them a rest at that point. The Sennheiser is like a comfy duvet and can be worn for hours.

My biggest complaint is how they look. The cheap plastic does not inspire confidence. The build and the design are just pathetic - like something cobbled together by a GCSE design student. Those stupid metal slider rods look like antennae. For that money I expect a much better quality of design and finish, not to mention comfort.

Re: Revised opinion of Grado SR125

hi there russelkhan

So you got them!

I to find them to a little bit disappointed with the comfort (understatement) because I use my headphones alot. I used to kid myself that I could listen to them for more that an hour, but they are uncomfortable and there's no getting away form it.

When I started to put them against the likes of the Sennheiser 595 and 25-1 a found them to be a bit bright and forward, but in no way a disappointment.

Everybody should try a pair of Grado’s somewhere in there headphone life.

Re: Revised opinion of Grado SR125

I listened to my dad's various senns whilst growing up, but i was never comfortable wearing them.

I adore my HF-1's and think they are the best purchase i have made... EVER. Stunning heaphones, pretty forgiving, and sound very nice out of my old skoool delta 290 integrated. I can't wait to mod another cd-63 (and not break a 3rd one ) then pair it with a new LDII+ !!!

Listened to the senn 595's when i bought my SR60's and noticed teh so-called veil straight away. Maybe il grow to like senns later in life, but the grado sound is jsut far to exciting and inviting !!
