Good headphones for £70

I got mugged the other day and they only thing that got nicked was my pair of Sony MDR-EX71SLW which i paid full retail of £35 for. i thought they were good headphones but after about 3 monthes the sound quality dropped dramatically and apparently the lead starts to strip eventually so i am looking to replace them with a pair of good in ear headphones. has anyone got any suggestions? my budget is £70 or less.

Thank you

Re: Good headphones for £70

Sennheiser CX300s are a great little bargain and you should get them for around £20.To me they sound very like Senn PX100s and they are incredible, but are usless out and about as they offer no isolation whatsoever. The CX300s offer pretty good isolation along with good sound, they are pretty bassy if you like that sorta thing. To me they sound better and fit better than my old EC2s which are much more expensive, its also easier to take them in and out as they are between an IEM and regular earphone.Getting a good seal on these is vital to the sound so make sure you try the different size plugs.

Personally, for the reasons you said i wouldnt spend too much on earphones to wear out and about. For that reason, the CX300 or Creative EP630 would both be a decent buy. For portable use, I often question why anyone would need more; the ipods and a pair of phones like those offer an enjoyable listening experience for even those used to listening to more expensive hifi.

Thumbs up Re: Good headphones for £70

Hmmmm,

for £70 you get get quite a few earphones,
The E2c from shure I find lacks in bass... If you have a wide genre preference then they'll be the worse headphones to get, however if you like classical/jazz/fusion with no prominent bassline then they're great. Shure are renouned for their sound isolation.
You can also purchase Etymotic's ER6's, I haven't tried these yet.

Sony MDR-NC11a or previous model MDR-NC10a, the first model is the latest and can be bought off Argos extra for £59.99, Sound quality is as good as ex71's when the noise cancellation is off, once it's flicked on the sound becomes strangely brighter. However the noise cancellation really works , it clears out about 10db of sound.

The Sennheiser CX300 are also great headphones which offers a better sound quality.. more brighter than all sony's I've ever used, it also delivers a great bassline however it's isolation isn't as near as Shure E series, nor the Sony MDR-NC11a's.

Re: Good headphones for £70

The Shures only lack bass if you dont get a proper seal. My mate has some and the bass is definitely prominent.

However, considering they are around 2x the price of the CX's (which I own), unless you need the extra isolation, I dont believe that they are worth the extra wedge
