Headphones for everyday use.

Hi, basically im searching for a new pair of headphones that ill be using with my ipod, pc and to watch TV with.

Ive trawled through 100s of reviews and forums looking at different types and to be honest its all a bit confusing. The most i know about headphones is some go in your ears like my walkman ones and others over your head. Im looking for the over your head ones with the idea being getting maximum quality when im listening. Its generally not particularly noisy where ill be using them so noise cancelling isnt really an issue to me its more about the quality of sound.

My mp3's are encoded at 256kb so i suppose the source isn't too bad to start with and with my £20 panasonic ones broken i want some that make me hear things that i never knew where there in the tracks. Ive seen some Sennheiser HD595's that looked good and sounded great in the store for £80 on ebay but im not sure what you guys reckon to them?

My budget is anything upto about £120 using ebay so its hopefully cheaper. Ive seen you talking about Beyers and Grado's and im not that clued up on what make is the best for my needs so if you can recommend me some it would be great.

Re: Headphones for everyday use.

The 595's would be excellent everyday headphones. Good smooth overall sound, very comfortable; it would be a good purchase.

I would also suggest a pair of Grado SR60's (I have a pair) which for the money are very good in terms of clarity. Some find them a little bright sounding but it's in no way a bad sound.

The Grado’s are uncomfortable though but I believe everyone should try a pair sometime in their headphone life.

If you can get a pair of 595's for £80 I’d say forget everything else and go for it.

Totally agree with the above post

I recently tried the 595s and I couldnt praise them more esp for the money. I used the Grados ( on loan) while my stuff was in storage sometime last year
I do have a pair of ( very comfortable 590s ) and more neutral sounding, a bit less comfortable but costlier 650s and can honestly say that around the £100 mark the Senns (595) are great.
The Grados are without a doubt very impressive ( soundwise, a tad better than the 595's ) but if comfort is a priority and prolonged listening is anticipated I would buy them with caution
A disadvantage with costlier 'phones of a higher calibre is that they dont tend to show what they are capable of until paired with suitable electronics unlikely to exist in an ipod TV or PC soundcard

Goldring DR150's are definitely worth a look... and I have some that are surplus to requirements....

Ok If you are ok with eBay and can work out the fake people then try these (remembering because they will all hold their price secondhand you can resell and try another).

The Senn HD600, Grado 80 and at a push 125.
