Best Headphones for PC Gaming

Hi all,

First post. I'm in the market for a set of headphones to use for gaming on my PC. They will be connected directly to my Creative X-Fi 7.1 sound card. I've got a budget upto £100 (if absolutely necessary). Any suggestions?

Many Thanks in advance.

Any pair of Sennheiser's HD range, although the Medusa headphones get good reviews from gamers.

I recently bought myself a pair of Shure E4C's and use them for everything. The SQ is absolutely stunning. However, they are not as comfortable as the over head style headphones. Plus it also depends if you want a mic or not for on-line gaming...

This http://www.zalman.co.kr/usa/product/view.asp?idx=113 will turn any headphone into a headset.

I'm quite partial to the Medusa purely for gaming. They're heavy but comfy and they do actually work for me (the 5.1 bit that is). The problems range from an interference-prone dedicated amp (a buzzing noise is present unless you make a real effort to site the amp away from sources of interference) and also it requires quite a bit of setting up time to get the channel volumes working for you. If gaming is all you do with a headphone, the Medusa is a decent choice at UK prices of around £45.

The recommendation will depend on what else you're planning to do with the phones.

Does the X-Fi have some sort of proprietary Creative version of Dolby Headphone? If it does you might be better off going for a good-quality pair of regular 'phones rather a pseudo-surround setup like the Medusa.
