reevesy - these are the Chinese amps I believe (?) - I nearly bought one s/hand on Head-Fi but decided against it as I couldnt find too much out about them & went for a "safer" option - there seemed to be mixed views on Head-Fi from very happy users to some worries over what components were used inside the amps - if you decide to go for one have a look at my thread here (Post #19) as the company I bought my Grado cans from is also a supplier of the G&W range & I had a very good experience buying from them recently
Paul
PS The company is www.ornec.com/home/GB

I just bought a pair of AKG K501s and I'm looking for an amp for them. I understand these are capable of good results but they are difficult to drive well, so I'm trying to be careful to get a suitable amp. The G&W T2.6F is on my short list and I would be really pleased to read reports from users of this amp. I do like the look of this amp and the fact that Ornec seem to be selling a version suitable for UK 240V mains supply.

I have seen a few unenthusiastic reports of the G&W TW-J1 on forums somewhere, with some indications that the build standard of these amps is quite variable resulting in there being 'reasonable ones' and 'bad ones'.

DennyL - the T2.6F was the one I nearly bought but as you said on Head-Fi & other forums there was little in the way of reviews / feedback from users - I decided to go for a Meier Corda Aria which is much praised over at Head-Fi (it also had the bonus of a USB DAC built in which suited my needs - I use my laptop as source thru the Aria & it sounds excellent!)
This was the "safe" option for me as there were reports of issues with build quality as you mentioned with some G&W amps
I'm sure you will find peeps at Head-Fi who use the Aria with AKG cans (?)
... Paul

Paul, in your searches did you look into the Cayin HA-1A? I have seen a reasonably good report of this, and it seems to be powerful.

DennyL - Yes I looked at this one too but once again not too much in the way of reviews / user reports - do a search over at Head-Fi (if u havent already) - I wasnt happy to "risk" a Chinese amp but I'm an Orthodox Tightarse
