Debateable... on pure SQ terms out of a portable they dont sound any better than £25 JVC HA-FX55, IMHO.

i have just bought a set of ebay for £47 all in. I think they are great sound and good base - very well made unlike the Sony MX71's which fell apart.

Only thing i find a little fiddly is getting the right sort of earpiece fitting. At the moment i am trying the foam sleeves which are good but fiddly to put in

Well worth checking and comes with a 2 year warranty.

For similar money you could have the etymotic er6i. These may be better in terms of detail, but you will lose some of the bass hit that the shures give you. If you like a rocking fun sound, settle in shure country. If you want detail and you listen to a lot of classical, settle in etymotic territory.
