Project headbox MKII Amp

Hi

just wondering is this amp any good ? id like to use it with my HD485's



Also how would i connect this to my receiver , can i run a set of phonos from the front speaker pre-outs or would i have to wire it from the headphone jack ?

It should not be connected to your receiver but straight to your CD player.

Views on the mark II are hard to find for now but the mark I was not well reviewed by enthusiasts.

does anyone know what cho moy amps are like ? the ones in penguin mint boxes , im going to use it with my laptop

Laptop outputs are usually very noisy so the quality is poor. The only way to get decent sound out of them is using a USB soundcard.

There are a number of amps with those built in such as the Headroom bithead but that is $200. You may be able to pick one up second hand from somewhere like Head-fi.

Nope. It's fine for a CD/mp3 player which lacks power, but due to the poor quality output of your laptop, will only serve to make a bad quality sound louder.
