peoples views on decent set of headphones?

Ive just recently read the reviews and other posts on a few headphones. And altho some of the info is real good,. Different people have different views on there own selection and why, Which is only normal.
My brother has recenty bought a Sony HD-5 which is a great little unit and the first mp3 player we have bought. At some point i will probably buy one, but at the moment, i wish to buy some headphones that will be used for pc, personal cd player and probably my brothers HD-5

Ive had my eye on the Sennheiser PX100 and PX200's, but recently heard of the AKG K26Ps which ive been lead to believe are PX200 killers?? Which i havent heard of, but have got good reviews on here. could anyone shed alittle more light on these? ive seen the PX100 vs PX200 thread which was really good. And its steered me towards the PX100's but are the AKG K26P better? Ive also heard of the Koss Porta pro as an option.. How in retrospec do these come, in cost, SQ and build quality..

thanks

Hi Marky, Do you have even more details for us to work on. I have the PX200 and over extended listening it can get sweaty. Do you want headphones just to play with mp3 while walking or also for listening at home? Do you prefer in ear, over ear, etc. As the Koss are real good but not for discrete wearer. If for listening at home the the Grado 80 will be very good and can get loads on ebay for good price. What is your budget?

I own Koss Porta Pro, and can't say a bad word about them, apart from their oldschool look
But they sound extremely decent, even for my "sensitive" ear

Totally recommended...

It's such a personal thing. I've 4 sets of headphones, all sennis. A pair of RF ones (45s) a pair I bought off here (HD25sp) fantastic when relaxing, and 2 pairs of PX100's which i use 90% of the time for everything from portable to the hi-fi and despite what some may say is too much bass, I find that for there price. I paid £20.00 each (from the now defunct Unbeatable) they are my favs. I compared them with the 200's for a short while and thought the 100's were better.

The 100's are completely open so leak sound badly and also let in a lot of sound. If you're walking around in potentially noisy places, forget'em as the temptation to turn up the volume to overcome the background will be high, which not only pisses off those around you but you risk accelerated hearing damage.

The PX200 and the K26P offers some isolation (both about the same) which reduces the need to crank it up as much.

The K26P struck me as extremely unrefined and bass-heavy. I subjected them to my standard 'accelerated burn-in' and wore them around a while, and found them truly heinous.

The PX200's are significantly better in this regard. It's more balanced, if somewhat murky in sound. It's true that they sound worse than the PX100, but they're far more practical for travelling / commuting purposes.

thanks for all that has posted there comments and reviews on the headphones in question

After reading some reviews on the net, and other peoples comments from various forums, ive actually bought some Shure E2c's which ive heard for the money are pretty good. i was recommended some cheap sonys at are on offer at the moment at Richer and just because of the price and the "you pay for what you get" came into the equasion. So for the headphones as to ear canels i bought the Px100's. Im not sure why apart from certain people saying the 200's can sound alittle muddled, but are closed as the 100's arent. im hoping ive made the right decesion, as the 200's was only another £3 from my local hifi store

when i recieve them and are well burnt in i'll post my views on them. as well as the comparison to the standard sony items.

thanks people..

Sennheiser hd 25 sp

I own a pair of these for DJ'ing. For that purpose they are great. They are durable, they isolate outside noise well and they go loud. However, in terms of sound quality, I just find these a poor listen. Even paired with my Arcam CD82, the are rubbish.

So, I wouldn't reccomend these.

I am currently looking for some in ear type phones for mp3.

My audition list includes Shure E4c and U.E super.fi 5pro.

You wont be disappointed with the E2C. My mate has these (on my recommendation) and I got to hear them for the first time when he got them, and I can say these are pretty damn good sounding out of his Creative Zen Touch MP3 player.
