Dedicated CD Player for headphones - worth it ?

I'm now starting to 'get' the whole headphone thing - from various forums / advice I now have a pair of Sony CD3000's plus a Headsave II amp but i'm still using my ipod as a source, should I invest say £300 - £400 on a good 2nd hand cd player ? what improvements am I likely to get ?

Definitely worth it. It will improve in every area, detail, soundstage, bass power/performance, refinement et etc. For the CD3000 I recommend a warm and smooth CD player with a good midrange. Others will be able to recommend a model that has that signature, as I am not that familiar with CD players in general.
