Looking for 5.1 headset - Thrustmaster T510 OK?

Hi

I'm looking for a good 5.1 headset. My problem is that I have a very complex setup and need something that takes an optical 5.1 feed and which has reasonably sized cables and which then forwards the optical out again to my DD/DTS amp, although I could use an optical splitter.

I currently have an optical cable from an xbox to a 5.1 amp. I need my solution to not mess with this.

I have looked at the trust 751B which is quite inexpensive but I don't like that this needs a digital coax cable and hence I would need to buy a converter. The other issue is that this forwards the output to speakers as 6 channel RCA (hence after decoding). This is undesirable as I have a 5.1 amp which is ace and DTS ready.

My best choice seems to be the Thrustmaster T510 which was recently released. First of all there only seems to be one place in the UK where this is being sold and its a whopping £105 and secondly I am a little confused as to whether I can extend the cables. I would like the decoder to sit with my amp and then I can just plug in my headphones as I need them. The headphone cable is only 0.5 m however and hence this might not be a good idea. I believe the unit is designed ot be used with the decoder on a belt clip and for that reason that give you a 2.5 m optical cable. This seems overkill to me however, although I recognise that an optical splitter would give me a decent clean solution.

The info with the T510 seems sketchy. I have still not quite worked out if the solution is wireless. Now that would be amazing. I guess with the decoder taking rechargeable batteries I thought that.

If anyone would like to suggest an alternative product or possibly has more in-depth information on the T510, I would really appreciate it. I am particularly interested in the type of cables, like the format of teh headphone cable to the decoder with the T510 to see if I can do something to extend it.

My budget is in and around £100 max.

Thanks

Darren

Just Discovered T510 Is Dolby Headphone Capable

Hi

Sorry. My earlier post mentioned the cable. I have just ordered some of these from etcetera.co.uk after finding out they are in fact dolby headphone which probably makes them the cheapest dolby headphone capable units available.

It also means that I can plug in some sennies or something else later on if the headphones break as the decoder is the actual thing doing the work and I can just buy a 3.5 mm extension or some cordless phones for cordless capabilities.

I believe this probably makes them a real good buy. I was wondering why they were so expensive when compared to medusas etc. The review looks good and hence I await them to give my opinions.
