Yes its a really good service, I used it on my Beyers as I didnt want a "pleather" headband since I have had pleather items perish in the past & as such I dont buy any headphones with silly pleather earpads etc.., so I ordered the genuine leather headband instead, its great & I love the faint smell of leather, I was going to get the coiled lead but had visions of it pulling my amp off my hifi shelf as its like a coiled spring!

I know you said this isnt an option as its only the premium but my advice for anyone thinking of doing the custom beyer option is to spent a lot of time thinking over the colour options, as some of the colours are quite intense when you see them in real, its best to stick to a more toned down design otherwise it could lead to some really strange looking combinations which will have minimal resale value if you ever wanted to shift them on.

Yea, however i dont think the red and black is that intense atleast the first picture.
but paying like 50% more to get a personalized 770 instead of a 770 pro is a bit too much
but is good such option exist.

Now since black velours do exist there must be a way i can buy black velours from beyerdynamic
The black velours on 770 would work on 770 pro right?
I prefer velour instead of Leather as they are more comfortable on my ears.

Right now i am leaning more toward the beyer than AT
and still more toward 770 than 990
however i am still deciding.

Again 990 is 250ohms
I can probaly be fine with a Titanium XD or extreme Gaming X-fi soundcard for some months
but i probaly need to get a Amp
Ofcourse as soon i get an amp it be the best headphones ever.

Now... if i go for 770 pro 80ohms i dont need to hurry so much to get a amp
i could even use them sometimes on my CowonS9 mp3 player

But what i realy want is personalize the headphones in black and red
so a pity beyerdynamic dont have that option for 770/990 pro
if just the price of 770 premium was equal then would be easyer
as i would have gone with 770 premium and personalized it as on the photos.

Anyway i have some questions

1. What payment does Beyerdynamic acept to personalize the headphones
only credit card, or they acept Debit card, Paypal, Money transfer from bank?

2. how long does it take Beyerdynamic to build me the headphones and ship it to me?

The leather I was referring to was the headband only, I also have black velour for the earpads, I believe certain models of Beyer can have leather earpads too but they change the sound character & not always for the better, strange I know but true.

I paid by credit card but im sure they would accept a debit card too, not sure about the others mentioned you would have to ask them, even though its in Germany I found they spoke good English & was very helpful.

Time is about 2-3 weeks for custom builds, my ones took 2 weeks from ordering to receiving them.

The biggest issue with Beyer has always been the various models available, there are so many different variants & photos floating around the internet, its not always clear cut what actually is the latest model, I saw photos of the DT880 with those pop studs on the headband but my one doesnt have them, ordering from Beyer will naturally get you whatever is the most current.

That's true but maybe not the best reason to base the choice of headphones because they are cheaper which would enable you to "hold off getting an amp for a little longer" as when you do eventually get the amp you will probably wish youd gone that extra mile in the beginning & got the DT990's

Looks like only cosmetic differences to me, some people say various versions can sound better than others, like a 2005 model etc sounds better than the 2007 or whatever, but while thats all well & good its useless if you cant actually get hold of a 2005 model now, some models also have different clamping pressures I believe, I have the "Premium" model but I believe the "Pro" model is said to have a slightly stronger clamping pressure on your head.

New (2005 Version?): on back of ear piece in raised white letters "DT 770 PRO 80 OHM"
on ends of headband in sunken black on black letters "beyerdynamic R" with brail version of "R". And vice versa for the left side.

Old (2003 version?): on back of ear piece in raised white letters "beyerdynamic DT770"
on ends of headband in white on black letters "professional right 2 x 80 ohm". And vice versa for left.

So it seem the old was the one i liked most
but now i need to find if is only cosmetic difference or if there is more difference
i see one shop has the old version but they just ship by regular airmail not UPS like the other shop

Yea but i cannot buy a Amp now so if i get the DT990 pro
i will have to handle 990Dt pro 250ohms which probaly sound worst without amp than the 770 pro 80ohms without amp
because 250ohms sound worst without amp right?

example: The volume on a 250ohms vs 80ohms without amp is probaly lower and so on...
also i cannot use it for mp3 player (but that is not the most important anyway as i choose this headphones for indoor use)

anyway would have been fun to could go to the park with my friends put on my new beyer headphones and blast their headphones off with the bass of the 770pro 80ohms hehe

Thing is there is no point in getting like the fiio E5 or something like that as i heard that just make the sound worst being a cheap amp.

so i am stuck atleast until or over the summer i think
with either 770 pro or 990 pro without amp
and for that the 770 pro sound better..

but yea once i get a USB amp/dac for under 200euro thats it.
then yea it will be better with 250ohms.

Yep like I said Beyers have so many variations on one model, it might prove harder to locate the older model, depends if anyone still has stock, if there are any sound differences between the two its not going to be anything noticeable unless you had both pairs to do a direct A/B so I wouldnt worry about that, they arnt going to have new drivers or anything like that, at least I doubt they would go to that expense on this model.

Yes if you think you may want to use them on an MP3 player then go for the 80ohms version, the differences between the two arnt going to be great, the largest differences are with the 600ohm model but thats another whole ball game

Today i recived my new Headphones Beyerdynamic DT770 pro

i finaly placed my order
I was told they would arrive on thursday.
On Thursday evning my headphones had still not arrived
tracing displayed them as delayed.
quickly i found out why
Ín Newspapers I read about a road accident
where a Truck had crashed in a tunel on one of the main highway
On the news i found out the truck that crashed was not my courier truck
and since the road was closed for 9 hours creating a traffic jam of 3km
my headphones apeared to be stuck there the whole day.
Fortunaly the next day Friday i got the headphones

The box was so light i though someone forgot to put the headphones in it

Opening the box i found all well protected by air pillows

When i first tried them since this was my first closed headphones
it felt strange as it was isolating all air into the ear
making me feel like somewhat deaf.

The velours are dark and light some places
giving them a somewhat dirty look
is that normal ?

as soon i plugged it into my old laptop with some music it felt better.
I tried it with some pop music and quickly found out Beyerdynamic Dt770 pro
was not so bassy as i had feared the volume was a bit low
granted my laptop soundcard is crap.

I then plugged it into my Onkyo homecinema to a music Radiostation
and yes the sound was better
But i still needed to turn up the volume 50%
because the volume of the headphones felt low

Then i plugged it into my Cowon S9 mp3 player and played with the EQ
and was Totaly Wowed by its sound
somewhat it sounded so good conected to a tiny mp3 player
it might just be i need to EQ the headphones using a better soundcard.

Then i plugged the Beyers into my Alienware Monitor

put on a game
the sound and explosion was amazing.
playing a blueray movie of Lord of the rings also wowed me
with great sound vibes
I could not do more test as a thunderstorm started

Since the headphones clamp a bit to your head
i expected pain after some time of use but this did not happen
the velours are very soft.
My conclusion is the headphones are good
but i am not so used to closed headphones
and since i still havent found a decent way to EQ the headphones through a amp (except on the mp3 player)

it feels like the headphones has a lower volume and lower bass

Anyway it make take its time to fully burn in this headphones.
The headphones are defently build like a tank and feel rocksolid
the side of the headphones are like metal with thick plastic
and they are light and not heavy at all.

Lower volume & poor bass response could mean your equipment is not driving them properly or if not then it could be all about high expectations, sometimes it can be a slight anti climax after reading so many reviews, but stick with them as your ear can be trained & after a while you will love them, also dont do any real judging until you are at least 50 hours in on running time as the Beyers start to open up then, my DT880's sounded flat but after 80hours started to open up.

You shouldnt really need to EQ them at all.

Oh & yes the grey velour does have that light & dark thing going on, its normal as its just how the velour is, they are clean :-)))

It makes no difference what you use, you can either leave them connected to your mp3 player in a drawer someplace set at normal listening levels, dont use higher than normal levels, with a selection of various music playing & leave them in there for a few days (day & night), or you can just use them as normal & they will gradually get closer to 100hours, but of course this can take longer.

Dont expect any night & day differences but they should open up a little more & sound better.

should i put it down to 30 then during burn-in?
keep in mind volume sound a bit lower since is 80 ohms

Yes just play music at normal levels, there arnt really any right or wrong way of burning in headphones, some people believe in it others dont, but if you just have the volume at sensible levels for a while they will gradually open up a little, you dont need it loud.
