sennheiser RS45 - MAX VOLUME?

Just got a pair of RS45 Sennheiser, I've plugged them into my Hi-fi and no matter if I pump up the volume on my hi-fi, the headphones seem to have a limit as to how load they can go - is this normal?

Hi!
I have the rs-40, which are the same, but no automatic tuning, and I experience the same. I think it has to do with the power of the batteries, because the effect is increased when running out of power in them.
So yes, I think it is normal. Anyway, if the batteries are fully charged, the maximum load is quite enough to make you deaf in the long term...
