Any recommendations on earphones with remote?

I want some in ear noise cancelling type earphones with a remote on the cable to change track, volume adjustment etc for my ipod touch.

Like these apple ones Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic - Apple Store (U.K.)

I've had those & sold them on. Very clear with good mids & highs but weak bass.

The best ones with built-in remote currently available are Klipsch S4i.

I've just bought some myself & they sound fabulous. Bit too bass heavy at first but after some "burn in" they settle down nicely.

Apple Stores sell them but around £90.

I actually find these sound nicer with my 64GB Touch than the £250 triple driver Shure SE530's I previously used.

I'm not saying the S4i are as good as the much more expensive Shures, just that they sound really good with the Touch/iPhone without having to use the Apples poor EQ settings.

Thanks for the feedback on the apples ones. Those Klipsch might just be above my price range though as I think I was looking to spend around £50/£60.

These are my current earphones that I've had for about 3 years or so, MDR-EX32LP (MDREX32LP) : Accessories and headphones : Sony which I'm quite happy with but I want a remote on the cable. Not sure how the bass from these would compare to the apple ones though.

Also apart from me looking at the price and the overall design of a pair of earphones, are there any specs I should look out for that I could compared to my current sony ones?

Some earphones say "with mic" but does that not necessarily mean the mic has also controls for play/pause/change track etc? such as these http://www.klipsch.co.uk/cat/headhon...psch-image-s2m

You'll deffinetely notice the reduced bass going from your Sony's to the Apple ones. The Klipsch are similar to the Sony with regard to bass but better mids & highs.

If you like your existing ones have you looked at the Shure iPhone adapter.

SHURE MUSIC PHONE ADAPTOR FOR iPHONE & RAZR - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/4062 for details

Doesn't have the volume control but does have a microphone and button works for pause/play next/previous. I've used this with the Shures.

Another option is the Belkin Shuffle adapter but it depends wher you want the controls to be.

Belkin : Headphone Adapter for iPod® Shuffle

This has controls but no micrphone and cable is short so controls would be close to the Touch/iPhone, not highup on the cable.

The Klipsch is the best combination of control location & sound quality. The remote on the Apple ones is more awkward being high out of eye-site on one of the earphone wires.

Just to point out that yours and the ones I've mentioned are noise Isolating types, not noise Cancelling which are different using electronics to cancel out outside noise.

Basically, the first use of this type of remote headphone out by Apple was for the 1st iPhone which didn't have volume controls on the remote, just the microphone & single button (which is what the iPhone Shure Adapter I linked to also does).

With the Touch 2G/3G/iPhone 3GS and latest Classic & Nano they introduce the ability to use the mic, volume & remote controls. The new Apple Dual Drivers & the Klipsch S4i are the first ones to over full functionality. The Shuffle adpater being aimed primarily at the iPod Shuffle doesn't have the Microphone.

The Shure adapter could be the best cost effective solution especially as you like your existing earphones & the iPhone/Touch still have a volume control anyway (hardly ever change volume my self as I use the Noise levelling function in iTunes/iPod).

The adapters look interesting but not to keen on the extra bit of cable but I'll look into it. I think the Klipsch S4i are pretty much what I'm after and the extra functionality with ipod touch is appealing.

These interest me to though MDR-EX38iP (MDREX38iP) : Accessories and headphones : Sony they appear to have similar specs as my current sony ones but with remote and better y shape cable, my current sony ones have the around the neck style cable which I've never been fond of but I don't think they have perfectly placed controls like the Klipsch ones, the controls seem to be placed like the awkward apple ones.

Thanks for that. I've not seen those myself but they do say NEW !

They could be what your after but doesn't look like they have the microphone which people want for the iPhone or Skype use on the Touch. I actually do make use of the voice control on my 64GB Touch on occassion so still prefer to have the microphone input too. Anybodies guess what SQ is like at this stage with them only being around £25.

Some good reviews about the Sony's on Apple & one on Amazon but this bad one if you want to use them while exercising:

"I was really hoping that this would be a good alternative to Apple's incredibly BOTCHED remotes for the Shuffle 3G and iPhone 3GS. You know, the ones that were engineered for working out (at least the Shuffle 3G) but by engineers who apparently don't understand that the human body, when working out, excretes a fluid called SWEAT. The remote buttons dangle just below the right ear, perfectly positioned for splats of this apparently exotic liquid to drop right into it, shorting it out and obliterating any functionality of the volume and track functions. Sadly, the Sonys do no better. These worked for exactly three workouts -- just long enough for me to be optimistic -- and failed in the middle of the fourth workout. Unbelievable. Yeah, to those geniuses who suggest that I wrap it in plastic or a condom, thanks for being innnovative and resourceful. But you know what? I don't WANT to wrap it in plastic or a condom. I want the companies that make these things (and charge $40 for them) to have the brains to understand who they are selling to, and make their products appropriately durable for the activities for which they are intended. "
