Headset use with PS3

Hi

Is it possible to setup my headset ( Medusa 5.1 ) to use with a PS3, or HDTV?

I'm buying both an HDTV and a PS3 tomorrow and really want to use this headset, mainly because I don't want to use speakers when watching films and playing games.

If there's anything I need to know/buy could you please help me out?

Oh, the headset came with some kind of RCA converter thingy, but it has 6 wires on the other side! Perhaps an AMP is needed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was about to post exactly this question too so hope you don't mind if I tack on to your thread!

I've also got Medusa 5.1 headphones that I currently use with my PC and would love to be able to set them up with the PS3 to use with Modern Warfare 2.

I'll follow any responses with interest.

Haha

I just can't play games without headphones anymore, and watching films is much better too imo.

Hi iSay, in lieu of anyone posting any other alternatives, I reckon I've found a really good, and not too expensive solution...

The Sharkoon X-Tatic Sound Control Unit (SCU)

You simply plug hte SCU via TOSLINK into your PS3, and plug your 3 3.5mm headphone jacks from your Medusa Speedlink headphones into the matching audio ports on the SCU. Job done.

£57 from Scan.co.uk

Or if you're feeling flush, you can buy the SCU with matching 5.1 Surround sound headset for £108.10, again from scan. The advantage of buying their headset is they've got their mic working with the PS3, so no more annoying bluetooth.

I can't afford the headset as well, so will just be buying the SCU, perhaps for Xmas.

As you're new to the PS3, I'll advise you that I don't think it's straightforward (maybe not even possible?? Someone correct me if I'm wrong) to get the Medusa Speedlink's 3.5mm mic working on the PS3...

So what I do (as I currently already use stereo headphones) is use a bluetooth device (Jabra BT8040) sat on the arm of the chair beside me, but in Audio Settings on the PS3, set my Bluetooth as the input audio device, but change the output to the "System Default Device", so people talking comes out the headphones, not the bluetooth. Think that makes sense. This way I can still talk to my mates whilst wearing headphones.

Hope that's of some help. Let me know on here if you get it and what it's like... Christmas is going to feel like ages away!

Have done a bit MORE research and have found these...

Lindy USB 2.0 Audio Adapter for £10.99.

It even mentions you can use it to connect a headset to a PS3.

So £57 for the Sharkoon X-Tatic SCU and £11 for the microphone connector...
That leaves it 40 quid cheaper than buying the Sharkoon headset AND the SCU. Does mean more cables sticking out the front of your PS3 though.

Hmm... Decisions decisions.

Very nice find mate. Those headphones look great, unfortunately I've not long had these else I would have got them! Well, when these go pop (which they will, 3rd pair already... very fragile) it looks like I've got a nice alternative and they look like they'd last a long time.

That SCU isn't in my price-range atm either, after buying an HDTV, PS3 and MW2 I'm broke! I was hoping for something under £20.

Thanks for your help though mate.
