Audio Production Headphones?

I'm currently studying Audio Production at college so I think it's appropriate that I invest in a great pair of headphones. I work on a mac (if that matters ) in a fairly noisy classroom. My budget is around £200, but if there are a fantastic pair that are a little more expensive, then I don't mind. Obviously sound is by far the most important factor for me, and then comfort as I work on the mac for hours. Here's a list of some I've picked out:

Goldring NS1000

Sony MDR7506

Creative Aurvana Live

Sennheiser HD 25

AKG K 701

Sennheiser HD280 Pro

Granted, I don't know much about headphones, but I'm willing to learn. Can anybody point me in the right direction please? It doesn't have to be a pair on my list above.

Re: Audio Production Headphones?

You'll want closed back phones for noisy areas, so you isolate sound coming in.

Cross the K701 off, it's open, and will need a powerful amp to deliver its potential, not very portable either.
Goldrings - Active noise cancelling, but it's tech you pay a premium for, in lieu of SQ. Even more so with the cheap ones, and 80 quid is cheap for ANC.
The Senn 280. DJ phone isn't bad, but doesn't have a rep as being comfy and DJs usually overdo bass - not good for audio production.
Creative, cheapys made to look expensive.
HD25, is discontinued and replaced by the MkII. Again DJ phone, and long term comfort may not be good. Also, quite pricey.

If you're going to spend that much, these would be very good

Amazon.com: Beyerdynamic DT 250 - Headphones ( ear-cup ): Electronics

And yes, also recommending them cos I have them. Super comfy, great sound, built for audio work and to last - every part is replaceable, and the cord plugs in at the speaker and PC, so any accidents and your phones will be fine. If not, only a new cord needed.

If audio is going to be your profession, those would be an excellent and practical investment. If you do, make sure to get the 80ohm version which doesn't need an amp.

Re: Audio Production Headphones?

Thanks drubbing, I appreciate your help.

What do you think about the Sony MDR7506? I've heard they're good monitoring headphones for production.

Re: Audio Production Headphones?

As Drubbing has said, the Beyer closed phones are superb.....tough,well made and not bad sounding, and you will see things like the DT100 in studios all over the place.

I had a pair of these years ago,and whilst they've long outlived their place in my system, they're still around, having put up with years of abuse.

I have the HD 25 MK II, and they are great for noise canceling and are small cans, the HD 280 Pro, had them too, sold them off to a mate for 25 quid..
IMO 280 Pro are not what you are looking for.
If you can demo the HD 25s, they are great cans, as said, they can be uncomfortable, but the head band splits which can help sort this issue..
Other cans I have not heard so won't comment..

Good honest reviews too..
