hi there.

a while ago i bought a fii0 e3 amp for about $10 i think it was. this will sound silly but prior to that i wasn't even aware there were headphone amps!

when i first plugged it all in i was disappointed as i was expecting a huge difference in sq. however i soon noticed subtle changes,
i think the sound is alot warmer.

anyway, i am thinking of getting the e5 version now. is there an improvement over the e3 as far as sound quality goes? is it worth buying?

i just searched for amps and i'm amazed and confused at the number available.

No. THe E5 jsut adds extra features like metal chassis, bass boost, clip etc. Fiio aren't really amps; they're as basic as you can get. They're just loudness buttons with some bass boost.

They don't add anything to SQ, more likely degrade it if played too loud.

Decent amps are not about producing volume, they're about getting the potential out of phones that require power to reach it. Very few phones designed for portable players need them.
