Help - husband huge av fan, need xmas prezzie!

Hi

Calling all AV enthusiasts. My husband is a mega AV addict, he's just put in a big home cinema thingy and on his xmas list is a pair of wireless headphones (not ones that go in the ears). My budget is £100-£150 max, he has suggested brands of Grado, Bose, Sony or Sennhauser....... I have no idea where to start as he wants me to surprise him and I so want to get it right.

Thanks

Re: Help - husband huge av fan, need xmas prezzie!

I don't think Grado or Bose do wireless headphones. To be honest I'd double check he does want wireless ones, as listing grado and bose would make me think he wants excellent sound quality which I have never heard through wireless headphones (although I have only tried a few pairs).

Personally I'd go Bose as I don't think you'll get a nice new pair of Grado's for your budget and Bose are very comfy and great sound quality.

Re: Help - husband huge av fan, need xmas prezzie!

I would suggest these sehhheisers -

Sennheiser RS 140 Wireless Balanced Headphones: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

the 130s have surround sound but the more expensive 140s do not

Having picked up and listened to a mate's 140's, I'd also go for them

Re: Help - husband huge av fan, need xmas prezzie!

Grado certainly don't do wireless. Bose sound ok, but have an image of top quality sound they don't deliver on - they are terribly overpriced for the sound you get, and I don't think they do wireless either.

There are compromises to no wires - it depends whether he wants convenience over sound quality, as the Senns will have background hum, and can be subject to interference. If he's set on wireless the Senns will be as good as any.

Re: Help - husband huge av fan, need xmas prezzie!

if you said wireless headphones the RS140 Senn's would be good.

however, i own the HD595 and can recommend them very highly!

Re: Help - husband huge av fan, need xmas prezzie!

The OP said wireless, otherwise I'd have said HD595 or some grado's

I think we're getting OT here. If the OP's husband is well into AV and wants wireless headphones, should we not simply be providing good examples of them?

The 140's would be my choice, unless someone else has a better suggestion?

By the way, I'm well impressed you're doing your research here trulysooty, hubby would be proud

The OP's husband may not be aware of the limited brand choices of wireless headphones and hence why people have been giving other options, just incase the OP's husband changes his mind upon finding out some of the examples brands he gave do not do wireless headphones.

Off topic? Does anyone else think X-factor is completely rubbish? <- thats off topic.

True, just saying 'wired is better' though, is hardly constructive is it

And yes, X-Factor is absolute tosh

Re: Help - husband huge av fan, need xmas prezzie!

Yeah my appologies, I did not read the OP properly.
If your husband can do with out the wireless, he will get a much better sound from a pair of wired headphones with the 595. however as others have posted, the RS140s are the way to go for the wireless solution..

Re: Help - husband huge av fan, need xmas prezzie!

Sennheiser HD600/650 if you can still get them, but not wireless unfortunately and will need a headphone amp/AVR with the 'right' type amplification from its headphone socket.

Ah I've just checked they are still a bit pricey I was thinking the prices would have dropped with the new HD800 being out and them being replaced. Wierd they dropped to £150ish at one point, now they've gone up oh well.

Sorry to jump on this thread but I've read a lot about the Senns being good (best deal on a 140 I've seen is still twice as much as the 130) but are Sony and Philips wireless headphones any good.

Been looking at a Sony MDR-RF860RK which seems decent but not really had a chance to actually listen to any. Would just be interested in what other have to say.
