Closed headphones for £60 - £100

Hi all. I'm looking for a pair of headphones with the best possible sound for the above price. They have to be easily driven as they will be used with iPod touch and nokia phone. Ideally closed as not to annoy the wife when I'm listening to music. I currently use in ear Denon c551's which are superb but I can't ware them for long periods of time.

Re: Closed headphones for £60 - £100

I am considering the Audio Technica ATH ES55 or the Sennheiser HD25 sp2's.

Re: Closed headphones for £60 - £100

Have you considered the closed back Audio Technica A700 ?(not to be confused with the Audio Technica AD700, which are open backed).

I was looking at them, but the open backed AD700 were more in my price range.

Worth looking at...

Thanks for replying. But they are outside my budget.

Re: Closed headphones for £60 - £100

I'm in a similar position - just that the top of my budget is £60. I was considering sennheiser hd228 or px200. not really sure what to do to be honest!

Re: Closed headphones for £60 - £100

Read a lot of reviews on the PX200's and although there were a lot of very good reviews there were also quite a few bad ones.

My problem is that my Denon in ear C551's sound so good, that i'm worried that i may choose a pair of headphones that do not sound as good. Its very hard to find local shops where you can listen to your choice of headphone.

Thumbs up Re: Closed headphones for £60 - £100

Sennheiser have made a new pair called the hd218 . Good review in What HiFi. Have a look and see what you think.

Re: Closed headphones for £60 - £100

Hi, I'm wondering the same thing too actually

Needed some closed headphones for about £30-60 but so far have only managed to find Sennheiser HD 228's (for £31 on play.com), Audio Technica ATH ES7's (for £40 which are probably fake) and the PX 200's.

But I'm a bit worried all of them will be a downgrade in sound quality over my current in-earphones, Head Direct RE0.

I'll probably go with the HD 228's tomorrow though and can write back on here how they compare when they arrive sometime next week

Re: Closed headphones for £60 - £100

Also, why can't you wear the Denon's for a long period of time?

If it's to do with them hurting or something have you tried different tips? you should be able to find foam tips made by SHURE or COMPLY etc, which are among the most comfortable tips there are - the downside is that they cost about £15 a pack though and only last a few months at a time before you need to replace them

Re: Closed headphones for £60 - £100

After about an Hour and half my ears start to feel uncomfortable and then for the next couple of days the ears feel tender to touch.

Its not just the Denon's, i think its probably all in ear phones as the same thing used to happen with my Senn cx300's.
