Have you managed to test your amp and headphones yet? What do you think? Are you impressed
I just upgraded to some Audio Technica AD700s to use alongside my mixamp. I've ordered a labtech boom mic to with this setup also.
Although we're using different cans and amps, I think this approach is the way forward If you want quality sound from your gaming. Gaming headsets have little speakers in the ear and although this sounds good in theory the actual result isn't great and nowhere near as good as using an amp outputting dolby digital into a decent pair of open earphones. As for wireless gaming headsets, I honestly dont see the point. Yes you've got a little freedom, but how much do you need when playing a game or watching a movie? The fact that they suffer from interference and hiss is enough to put me off.
Anyone reading this thread should consider the astro mix amp, the JVC amp or something similar and pair it up with a good set of open earphones.
If you want an all in one solution i.e matching earphones with a boom mic attachment then I'd recommend the Astro A40s.

The sound produced is excellent for games and movies, the headphones are really comfy, a mic is included and everything looks good.
Imo its much better to invest in something like this than waste your money on something like the Turtle Beach x41 which costs £150, is reported to suffer from no end of problems and wont give you anywhere near the result of something like the A40s.
