Sennheisser 595s from Amazon UK for 89 quid should be on your short list too...

The Goldring NS1000 are more suited to portable use and even at £50 I'd not recommend them for home use.
Grado are easily powered so would be usable without a headphone amp, though would sound better with one, but some folk can never get comfortable with them.
The Senn HD595, especially at the £89 price tag at Amazon (reseller though at present) would be my recommendation too.

Senn and Grado are polar opposites in sound presentation. So a good choice of phones is the one that best matches how you like to hear music and what you listen to.
Grado are punchy, natural sounding, with a bright top end (trebles). Very good detail and clarity for the price. But some don't like the clarity of the treble and find it too in your face. They particularly like Rock and Jazz because of their sound style, but that doesn't mean they do anything else badly.
Senns are far more laid back, don't really throw the music at you, but good value for the price. I never liked them, and found I was more into Grado.

ok i tried the Grado and to be honest for my use they sounded fine, my only grudge is the amount of noise loss and i could here the tv on in the backgound.
So i need a set that will block out the tv and the kids! and at the same time mean the wife can't here. Sound quality wise the Grado are fine. |

Maybe the Audio Technica A500's will fit your requirements if you want closed headphones for <£100?
Or the Audio Technica M50 which were £105 last time I checked

I had a pair of sennheisser HD 280s years ago, picked them up for equivalent of 65 quid, retail 150..
Best cans per $ I had used, now bad things, very uncomfortable, sold em to a mate for 15 quid..
I believe it has 23 db of noise cancellation, passively, ie they are not active noise canceling cans.
They did sound great, but if you tapped the coiled cable, you could actually hear this, annoying, very annoying..

Say they are no good OK, work with me here...
45 quid, you were prepared to spend 120 quid, you are still 75 quid up.
This can only be a lesson, but you should be fine..
Hope it works out..

I can't comment on what they sound like, but this should validate your purchase.. Goldring NS1000 - A mini review
I have only briefly skimped through the thread, but I am sure you will be very happy, and a bargain..
Good work grasshopper..
