Headphone socket troubleshooting. Help please

Hi ,

I have a Marantz SR 5300. Recently, in order to prevent too much noise at night. I've got a pair of sennheiser heaphones with a normal 3.5MM headphone jack.

However, I found out that there were no 3.5MM headphone jacks on my SR 5300 there was only the large phones socket which I presume is the 6.3MM.

I went to the audio store and got a nice little adapter that converts 3.5MM to 6.3MM.

Here is picture http://www.pacificgeek.com/productim...30A3-12300.jpg

However, now when I plug in the headphones with the adapter, there is no sound. My amp automatically recognizes the insertion and switched to STEREO instead of surround. But no sound to the headphones.Have tested this with earphones, also no sound.

Instead I bought this
eBay.com.sg: 3.5mm 1/8 stereo female mini jack to 2 male RCA adapter (item 350241344036 end time Sep 17, 2009 05:05:20 SGT)
and this item is awaiting shipment.

Will this work? Any experienced guys with answers would be much appreciated.

And also, should I get a headphone amp? Now I'm worried after buying a headphone amp, it wouldn't work as well.

Thanks

Re: Headphone socket troubleshooting. Help please

Check the manual for the av amp, it may have just had the sound very low or muted (to avoid you blasting your ears).

The second adapter phono/3.5mm stereo won't be of much use as this will have to be connected to a line out which is a fixed sound level (volume is controlled by the device it connects out to).

Yes of course you can get a headphone amp which should solve the problem, a budget one designed for portability would use the new lead; a home based one is more likely to have phono connections to match the line out from the av amp. So another lead would be needed phono/phono.
