Faulty Shure se530's

Hi all i am a great fan of shure and have recomended many to use them.

However with my se530's i am on my third replacement the sound always cuts out, particularly on the left ear, and this has started on my latest replacement pair.

I treat them quite well so do not think i am to blame, is this a commen problem, have got a bit fed up to be honest. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Faulty Shure se530's

If I were you, I'd send them back in to Shure, sell the replacement set on and buy a different pair mate.

I used to have the Shure E500's and now have the Westone 3's, which are a better sound all round for me, with bass as good, but with better mid and treble, plus the cabling is superior as well and I haven't read of hardly any problems with cabling problems, unlike the Shure's, which is known for it.

Thank you for your, help its so fustrating because i really love them but i have the same problem with all the shures i understand you have to look after anything but they have to be useable too and especially for the price.

Is there a particular earphone thats seen to be the best atm ? i was looking at ultimate ears but dont really know where to look.

Re: Faulty Shure se530's

I used to have the Triple.fi's as well and they were great for me, more analytical than the Shure's with far better treble and punchy bass, but not as warm sounding, so it depends upon your preference really.

As I also said, I have the Westone 3's, which I think is the best of both worlds, analytical, with very good bass as well, but they do cost a bit more than the Triple's, which you can get for around £210, although I've seen the Westone 3's for under £200 from the US, which could come to about £240 after customs.

You could find a lot more information over at Head-fi mate, where there are numerous threads on the subject, from far more informed people than myself.

Re: Faulty Shure se530's

I can attest to Westone build quality. My UM2 themselves are second hand but 2.5 years on they are still going strong

Re: Faulty Shure se530's

i like the look of the Westone 3 True-fit Earphones are these even better than um2's. i know earphones are very subjective, but i want to make sure i get the best by general concensus. Personally like a strong bas, but good clarity in terms of hearing the little details which i found the shurs to be good at and nothing to sharp.

Thanks guys your really helping me out here

Also what is the general concensus behind the custom fit headphones?

Re: Faulty Shure se530's

I've never heard the UM2's, but all the reviews that I've read say that the W3's are a good step up and the music as a whole has more clarity than the SE530's for me.

As for custom's, unless you're going to spend £500+, I wouldn't bother mate.

I went for the ACS custom sleeves, which improved the W3's a fair bit for me, the isolation is perfect and the clarity is even better.

As for the three drivers, the Shure's have two bass and one treble, whereas the W3's also have 3 drivers, but one for bass, mid and treble and I think they benefit from this.

Customs would be a bit extravagant but they seem exciting, however is the step up that great? and also do you get the same seal as with foam sleaves, as customs are obviously solid.

Would you say the bass is still or better on the w3's than the shures.

Also any views on the ultimate ears triplfi 10's, realistically its between them and the w3's probably.

sorry for so many questions

Re: Faulty Shure se530's

Customs are the best you can get, but how much better they are seems to be quite small in some cases, but I've not read enough about them to really comment.

The Triple's have great highs, which are crystal clear, unlike the Shure's which are renowned for being rolled off, but they have a better bass, because of the warm sound that they have, although the Triple's bass is more defined and punchy for me.

For me, the W3's have highs that are very close to those of the Triple's, but also have the bass of the Shure's, without being too warm sounding, which is what I was after.

As I said earlier, I went for the ACS custom sleeves which cost £89.99, including the price of an audiologist visit for the impressions, a choice of colours and all postage. This way, you get the same earpiece as the customs, but at a fraction of the price and it was well, well worth the money in my book.

If bass is a big requirement, then you should also look at the Sennheiser IE8's, which are supposed to be rather bass heavy, although they do lack slightly at the high end. But I've never heard them myself, so can only comment upon what I've read at Head-fi.

Also fit, the Triple's do stick out from the ears a bit, although you can swap the cables round, then they fit better, but nowhere near as flush as the Shure's or W3's. You can also buy spare cables for the Triple's for about £17, which is very handy.

There's a lot for you to think about mate, all those I've mentioned are quality phones, but each have their own sound signature and it's not easy, hence me having bought three pairs, until I settled on the Westone's. But what's great for me, isn't for the next person, plus the fact that I mostly listen to metal/rock dictates my choice, also I also listen to some regular pop music, which also sounds amazing.

You could also do what I ended up doing, buying a second hand pair from the classified section on Head-fi, or on here, although top end phones don't seem to pop up that regularly on here.

Re: Faulty Shure se530's

this has been such a great help i probably will end up going for the w3's as i like a warmer sound and for me highs are not a priority, i listen to a mixture of dance, trance and hip hop if that helps.

Also the cable on the W3 looks like a really solid piece of desgin.

Re: Faulty Shure se530's

The cable on the Westone is made up of a couple of thin, twisted wires, but is well known for it's durability.

If bass is your main priority, then the Sennheiser IE8's might be more your thing mate and they're readily available in the UK, for £180 delivered as well, which is quite a bit cheaper than the Westones.

Seriously, take a look on Head-Fi.org: Headphones, iPod earphones, portable audio, MP3 players, high-end audio, there's a huge amount of threads on the subject over there.

A minor digression now for Westone's naming convention. The W3 came out as their first 3 driver IEM and it was emphasised as not replacing the UM2. Then a few months later the UM3X came out as a stage monitor, but then when have labels ever stopped anyone

I used to own E4G's before moving onto the UM2. Shure cables are nice and thick, but the thin twisted wire Westone use is much much better. Less microphonics yet belies their looks in being strong - well I've never had an issue with them and I've not read of anyone who has

Re: Faulty Shure se530's

Unbelievable, just phoned up and they are replacing them one last time even though they are out of warranty, ill tell you what that company has the best customer service i have ever seen, and i wish you could buy a car and have the same kind of warranty lol.

She said some people have replaced them 7 times in a warranty but its not common, and people can have them 4 years before any issues, but to me it sounds like it is a common issue, which is a shame for such a great product, i really hope they bring out an improved example soon,

Unfortuneatly to protect myself i think i might have to sell them, even if i was to buy another set of shures new to make sure i have the warranty.
