In-ear earphones for the gym

Hi all

I know there are a few other threads on this subject but my requirements are quite specific and haven't been covered elsewhere.

So *deep breath!* what I'm after is this: a set of in-ear phones that are noise-isolating. They also need to have the ear hooks (like the Sennheiser OMX80s) to make them secure .

I've got a set of Shure EC2s which are good but wouldnt stay in during a workout. I've checked out the Ultimate Ears recommended elsewhere but they dont have the ear hooks which make me think they may also have the same problem.

I looked at the Sennheiser CX380 which again look good but dont have the clips.

There are other Sennheisers (IE6) with the over-the-ear design of cable but Sennheiser's website doesnt list them under sport phones so is it worth risking £100 when the manufacturer doesnt put them in that category?

So does anyone have any recommendations?

Cheers in advance!

Re: In-ear earphones for the gym

Thanks for the replies so far - I can't find the Creative's on sale and the i-Luv's look a bit on the cheap side.

I tried the Phillips yesterday and I didnt like the sound quality at all!

Anyone else got any recommendations??

I should say that I'm prepared to spend up to £100 and am using a itouch 2nd gen 32gb model

Re: In-ear earphones for the gym

The Sennheiser IE6 would be suitable for the gym as it has an over ear cable fit system and comes cable guides to assist with keeping the earphones in place. Over ear cabling works very well for two reasons: first, the earphone stays secure on the ears and second, noise does not travel up into the ear when the cable rubs against clothing.

Another two alternatives are the SoundMagic PL30 or PL50. Both have a similar design to the Sennheiser, and also include a cable guide to keep the earphones secure. I actually find these two earphones do not need the cable guide as the Y in the cable can be tensioned to the back of the neck. This keeps the earphones very well secured.

Re: In-ear earphones for the gym

Have you tried any of the different adapters on your Shure E2Cs? I use the foam earplug type on mine, and have never had any problems with them coming loose in the gym, running, or mountain biking. They've even stayed in on the bike after a serious crash which left me with three broken ribs and nine stitches

Probably a bit cheeky to suggest it but it wasn't because you didn't hear the car coming?

I sometimes use the foam tips on my s-Jays for the gym but wouldn't wear them out running near roads for safety reasons. I use iGrados (an open headphone) for out and about.

Nah, not too cheeky at all

Do most of my running and all of my riding off-road - No cars on the North Downs, well other than the occasional burned-out stolen one........
