Noisy neigbours headphone advice

Unfortunately I have noisy neighbours which can spoil my evenings entertainment. Door slams, boom boom music, cheering and general shouting comes through the walls and disturbs my watching of TV and films.

I'm not interested in a noise battle between us, so I'm looking for a set of headphones that can cut out their noise and leave me free to enjoy my TV and music.

Ideally I'm looking at a wireless pair that can do this for under £100.

I have an Onkyo 605, PS3 used mainly for blu rays rather than games, Sky HD and a HD DVD player not sure if this makes a difference but I thought its worth adding.

Any help is gratefully received

Re: Noisy neigbours headphone advice

not being rude but why just ignore the problem if they are reasonable people just go round and make it politley clear that sometimes they can be a bit loud and if they could keep it down it would be great. If they arent reasonable then youre well within your rights to complain about them as it may not be just you think about the people on the other side of them as well. I currently live next door to my auntie and after various times of her calling me to ask to turn it down i now know for example that i can have the volume on 20 for the tv and 15 for the ps3 and she cant hear a thing so everyone is then happy.

sorry if this isnt the answer you were looking for but in the long term i beleive it would be the best solution

Re: Noisy neigbours headphone advice

My smypathy, our noisy neighbours moved-out of their rented house next door two months ago. We had your problems; music, arguments, door slamming plus drunken arguments in the street at 4 and 5am when 'she' came home from working in a club along with 3 or 4 taxi's per night pulling up.
When my other half popped-around for a chat about the noise she got told "I'm trying to watch the f***ing football!" and the door slammed in her face, nice.
At least they've gone down South now, they didn't fit in around here, I just feel sorry for whoever is getting them (in the Oxford area).

As for headphone advice, if the neighbours are REALLY noisy and you want total isolation, try and get some 'closed-back' headphones. These should keep any sound out, though can make your ears hot after a long while. NB: These may well be listed at DJ headphones.

Headphones & Earphones | HiFi Headphones Store - iPod earphones, wireless headphones, in ear headphones, Sennheiser headphones plus Grado, Audio Technica & Skullcandy - HiFi Headphones seems like a good resource of info.

Good luck and good luck with the neighbours, hopefully they'll move on.

Re: Noisy neigbours headphone advice

I picked up from the US off ebay a pair of Sennheiser HD 280's.
Closed as the above poster stated, but they can be awkward for long periods of time..
They do give you only source, no external sound can be heard, price, $130 AUD, thats about 60 Squids...
They normally retail for about 150 Squids or 299 AUD..
Other than Sens, there are a lot of other brands, like Grado, which as entry level, are expensive but very good.. Koss, Sony, Pioneer, Technics etc...
Many to choose from..
Closed are nice, but uncomrftable after awhile...
