Question A matter of headphones

This place is void of headphone topics but hey anyway why not ask you very knowlegable people.

In a recent technology show "gamesville, sky one".
They reviewed set of sound pieces, one being a sort of,
"Cochlear Implant headphone"

It works by sending vibrations to the centre of the ear the cochlear.

It was wierd at the very least,
I was hoping somebody could shed light on this subject, since a had a brief look on google i came up with nothing.

Thanks for reading

I have seen this method of sond transmission used on certain models of telephone designed for the deaf, although effective in those circumstances it does not provide particulalry high fidelity audio.

This is something that's useful for people who are deaf because of problems with the middle ear - sound not being transmitted properly from the eardrum, across the hammer, anvil and stirrup bones, to the oval window. If that part is damaged, but the inner ear still works, then this is more effective than a hearing aid.

(No use for people like me whose deafness is caused by nerve damage, though. )

www.Headphone.com

I have also read recently of a device that is on it's way down the line to consumer level (pc/console games thing i believe) that couples both ears and nasal pasages and via minute changes in pressure allows the brain to think you are tilting/falling/lying down etc.
God only knows what such a thing might look like.

Regards

Steven

I've got a set of these for portable use...absolutely superb, but can be a bit of a fiddle to get them seated properly.
The other great advantage is about 30dB isolation from external noise....great for planes etc.
