Headphones; mainly Ipod use

For the past few years I've just used run of the mill cheap earphones which offer basic sound quality at the least but I see it as a worthy investment buying some headphones which will offer great sound quality when using my Ipod and occasionally through the computer. The genres I enjoy are quite sparse but generally Electronic music and ambient is what will be listened to, Tangerine Dream being one of the main artists I'll listen to. I was budgeting around £50 - £180.

A few of the following headphones took my fancy;
Audio-Technica's A700 - £149.95
Sennheiser HD25-1 II - £109.99
Grado Igrado - £44.95
Koss PortaPro - £26.95

As you can see they vary in price quite substantially but if the Grado's or Koss headphones perform just under the other two using the Ipod it seems silly spending £100 more.

Thanks for any advice received.

The Audio-Technica's and Sennheiser's you mentioned are great. I'd also take a look at the HD238's by Sennheiser. Great sounding cans for casual music listening.

Re: Headphones; mainly Ipod use

Would the Sennheiser HD25-1 II be much of an improvement over the 238's to warrant the £60 increase in price? I would like to get reasonable nice headphones after all.

the ATH A700 isn't portable.

If that's not an issue, there are plenty of other options. But I would say that is a great price for the HD25.

Re: Headphones; mainly Ipod use

Decided to go for the Sennheiser 25-1 II, as for that price they seemed like a steal. I'm looking forward to listening to music through something a little better than jellies -.-"

Thanks for the help guys.

They were that price at Play.com but it seems as if they've gone back up to £150.

Re: Headphones; mainly Ipod use

the Headphones that I'd recommend whilst exercising is any Shure earphones. These are ear-canals which *really* do block out 90% of the ambient around you. The sound quality is very good though the lower models are not bass heavy though this is easily compensated by setting the equaliser setting to R&B.

I have bought over the last year SE-110 (£50) , SE-420 (£150) and most recently SE-530 (£210).

You won't be disappointed in their purchase.
