Headphones on VSX-C300 sound dull

Dull probably isn’t the right word, but it's hot and can’t think... anyway, I have a Pioneer VSX-C300 amp connecting my telly etc to speakers, but need to use phones late at night. This is OK, there’s a phones socket on the amp – but there’s precious little bass in the sound. Now it’s probably just that the 30-year-old phones are knackered (Pioneer, were quite decent in their day), but... is there any obvious reason otherwise why I wouldn’t be getting any bass through them? I get plenty through the speakers... thanks.

Re: Headphones on VSX-C300 sound dull

Hi hogweed,

This is because the internal design of the headphone jacks on most amps is very simple due to cost reason. So rather than hoping to get good sound out of the headphone jacks, I would like to suggest to get a decent headphone amp instead.

GAAAHHH!!!!! Sounds expensive... I have very low-quality ears. Can you get cheap ones?

Yes you can. And they sound cheap.

30 year old headphones out of an integrated amp headphone jack? I'd be getting new headphones. While the jack will be limiting factor, just don't spend too much on phones, after all your ears are low quality.
